‘Everything I do is for him’: Flames new guy John Beecher inspired by older brother
While John Beecher hasn’t made a major offensive impact with the Flames, the waiver-claim centre has become a key piece on the penalty-kill
Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat pushing for spot on U.S. Olympic team
Two months from the start of the men's hockey competition at the Winter Olympics, Alex DeBrincat continues to push for a spot on the United States team.
The 27-year-old winger extended his point streak to five games on Wednesday, leading the surging Detroit Red Wings with two goals and an assist in a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.
What’s Going On In the Pacific Division: The Flames are back in the playoff hunt
Don’t let the Calgary Flames get hot.
The Flames are back from the dead, as they’ve gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 to move to just four points out of a playoff spot. All eight Pacific Division teams in relative striking distance of a post-season spot, well, aside from the Vancouver Canucks.
Looking at the Craig Conroy and Mike Cammalleri trades with the Kings
On Saturday, the Calgary Flames will play their first game against the Los Angeles Kings in 2025-26.
There have been two notable trades between the two teams in the 21st century, which is what we’ll cover in this edition of Throwback Thursday. The two trades are the Craig Conroy trade and the Mike Cammalleri trade.
Some key Flames prospects are distinguishing themselves this season
So far, quite a few Flames prospects are playing very well.
2024 first-rounder Matvei Gridin? He’s one of the most offensively productive rookies in the AHL after starting the season in the NHL. At age 19.
2025 first-rounder Cole Reschny? He’s adapted to the NCAA really nicely and become one of the most relied-upon players for a strong North Dakota team.

I was happy to watch the Flames battle in the 3rd against Detroit and hope they can ride that same desperate pace into today’s game. Go Flames!

Having 3 players in the top 23 of that one guys redraft is nice to see. The Flames scouting department has a proven ability to find talent in the draft if given the opportunities.

So, according to that guy….
Reschny from 18 to 9
Potter from 32 to 23
Stockselius from 54 to 45
And Wyttenbach from 144 to 14.
One randos opinion, but still pretty cool.

So how does a dad trip work for AHL tweeners? Hunt gets sent down so his dad has to cancel?

No, his dad gets to keep going on the trip to be looked down upon and ridiculed by all the other dads. He also has to wear an apron and serve the food.

For anyone wondering why they sent Hunt down for one day only to recall him the next day, this is from the CBA (16.5.d Holiday Roster Freeze):
Quote:
|
a Player who was Recalled after December 11 may be Loaned through 11:59 p.m. local time on December 23, provided such Player is not required to be placed on Waivers during the roster freeze period in order to effectuate such Loan.
|
By sending him down on the 11th and recalling him on the 12th, it will allow them to send him to the AHL during the roster freeze, which starts on the 19th (11:59 pm, so really the 20th).
He is close to the 30 day limit for requiring waivers again, so expect to see him on waivers some time later next week.
Also, the new rules that were put in place to prevent "paper" transactions (where a player is assigned to the AHL prior to the deadline, then immediately recalled) meant that he needed to play at least one game in the AHL during his demotion, which he did Thursday night.

I forgot about Wyttenbach. What has he done to warrant such a rise? That's incredibly impressive.

That is easily countered by some folks on this forum though.
