I would be interested in the Caps 2027 first, especially if it was unprotected. Unless our amateur scouts were interested in their prospects I would rather give our scouts more picks and trust their judgment. I also think at some point in time the caps fall off a bit.

Ya that would be a pretty good package for Rasmus.

I am curious if Conroy has any interest in moving Weegar if the price was right. The one team that has always needed a right shot Dman is Ottawa. They traded for Jensen almost entirely because of the fact he is a right shot Dman. They potentially lose him after this year and they definitely have a window right now and are under immense pressure locally to try to capitalize on it. Weegar is a local guy and has a pretty affordable cap hit. If they had him they would have a very solid top 4 backend for this year and next with Sanderson, Chabot and Zub with three solid lines up front.
They might be willing to put forward a substantive offer for Weegar just because he would be around for all 2-4 years that they have a window before they possibly lose Batherson, Tkachuk, Zub, all 3 of whom are on pretty good contracts.

I think Weegar's time to start being shopped starts next season. But that's not based on anything other than gut feel.

The above 4 need to establish themselves as the clear cut top 4. Then we still have other prospects like Mews, Morin, Grushnikov, Jamieson. Weegar is signed until 2031. I don't think there's any movement with him for a few years at least.

I think Weegar will be part of the Flames through the rest of his deal unless he requests to be moved which I suppose is a possibility. I can’t see it this season though

Suspect you are correct, I just think living in Ottawa that he is a guy that Staios may give a substantial package for. They are not as likely to move big assets for a rental but a longterm fix I could see them saying they have a 3-4 year window and going for it. Given how long their core roster are signed for a move like Weegar is probably the only real move they have to make in order to legitimately be a contender for the next 3 years.
If they throw Yakemchuk and maybe a pick or two on the the table I suspect Conroy at least considers it. By the time Yakemchuk is contributing for them they are probably trading Brady for futures.

Yeah. I'm thinking "shopping" him unfolds at the same pace as Andersson, no rush to make a move imemdiately and likely to take several seasons. Which wouldn't be a bad thing in Weegar's case.

You worry a little too much, it’s not if he’s gone it’s when.

He has also been our best defenseman by far lately. I was just saying the rumor that he was a locker room cancer is definitely overblown.

Once the other vets move, don't be surprised to hear Weegar being "open to moving" too

We're not sure if he is interested in moving Kadri and Colemen if the price is right. Adding Weegar to the mix and trading them all would be a complete teardown.
And sign me up.

Can’t see anything major happening with the Flames until the end of the Dad’s trip. So…late next week at best?

There were pundits that were calling VAN not jsut contenders, but their pick for cup winner, last year.
In less than a season and a half, they let Lindholm walk, chased Miller out of town, fired a coach, turned Pettersson into a basket case, and traded away one of the best defensemen in the league.

Fair, when the teams winning the mood is completely different.
He’s also playing well now like you said, so again the mood is different.
Trust me I have no knock on him as a person, he’s been great and is a great team guy overall, and I think he cares about the game.
He’s just not going to be here long, so him playing well is great for value

Well we are certain that he is interested in moving Coleman and Kadri, that has been confirmed by almost every single insider. But Weegar would be another story. All I was saying is that I could see Ottawa being specifically interested in Weegar, it is an organizational need they have been trying to address for years.

Ya, they traded a 31 year old JT Miller, 20 year old prospect Dorrington, 18 year old 3rd rounder Fernstrom, Desharnais, Heinen and Branstrom for 22 year old Mancini, 25 year old Chytil, 26 year old 4th liner O’Connor and 28 year old Pettersson.
That was their first rebuilding trade and the youngest asset they got for Miller was a 22 year old Mancini.

If Conroy follows Burke's rules, they're already inside the window that's too close to Christmas to make any moves, even though the official roster freeze isn't until next Friday.
I don't think anything happens until after Christmas, probably early January for Andersson. Maybe late January for Kadri, and around the deadline for Coleman.

The traded a 1st round pick in January too...I guess that is part of the Miller trade but still

Ya those trades were pretty much back to back but effectively they did the we’ll known move out collectively younger players/prospects for older players rebuilding trade.
