"I believe this is something you probably go back even a year ago when this started to come to our attention that this might be the path that Quinn wants to go. And we were hoping, the ownership was trying to do everything, we were trying to do everything to convince him to stay and work through it," Allvin said. "But we felt that when we were not able to do it, that's where we started the process of looking to see what potential destination that would be out there."

If they do, this trade will look a lot better, because you might not even need a top 2 pick to get a franchise player in this draft it seems like.

If, and I say if, Rutherford and Allvin have managed to sell a rebuild to Aquilini they are going to be two of the most important people in Canucks history.
Not because the rebuild will for sure work, but because it is something the team has desperately needed since 2014.

Is this fantasy hockey? If only our team would make moves like this.
Minnesota is a threat to win the cup now but Vancouver did very well in this trade and they also make the 1st big move to tank to get 1st pick.
It's time to move Anderson. I said in the summer that who knows who will become available as the season unfolds. Q Hughes just got moved and this idea that Ras is and will be all season the best dman available clearly was wrong.
Vancouver get Buium and Rossi, they probably move Pettersen now and add a 1st and Ohgren. When they add one of McKenna, Stenberg or Verhoeff they will be looking very good after 1 tank season.

The Canucks picked top 10 in 6 of 7 years from 2013-2019. The first pick was acquired for Schneider and Horvat was solid. Virtanen over Nylander was a huge miss. Juolevi over Tkachuk was a massive flub. Pettersson was a good pick at 5 and Hughes was an absolute steal at 7. Podkolzin didn’t pan out at 10.
2 runs to game 7 of the second d round since 2011 and only 2 playoff appearances since the Sedins.
Looking back they had enough top 10 picks to rebuild but just made some really bad ones in 2014 and 2016

Now that one of their Central division opponents has made a huge improvement, the Stars should be extra motivated to upgrade their right side defense.

Quinn Hughes was available this summer and the entire league knew that so the dynamic in the summer of who was available has not really changed.

Pretty sure many said ras was top dman available. If Quinn was available then ras never was top available dman.
Canucks just traded an all time great Canucks and their captain. Why is Ras still a flame?

Andersson’s value is probably higher now than in the summer.

I suspect he is still a Flame because Conroy has not received the offer he wanted yet. As for the Highes trade that is a great piece of work by Guérin. Have to see if the futures that the Canucks got turn out but now they have more than 2 or 3 prospects in their entire system so that is good I guess for them.
Before this trade I would have taken the Flames 9th or 10th best prospect over the Canucks 4th best prospect, that statement ain’t true anymore so in that regard they have added some depth.

It could be that if the word was out in the GM circles that Hughes was going to be traded that they didn't want to trade for Andersson at the opportunity cost of picking up Hughes instead especially if the ask for both players included a 2026 1st.

If Ras had term, I would agree the return would be higher.

the funny thing was watching the hawks/blues game - it was the espn feed.
at the first intermission it was all about the canucks/wild trade and then a quick little 'ps' at the end about a goalie swap

I really like this trade for Vancouver. Young pieces contributing now with upside, an additional 1st round pick...yeah that's just some good work.
...and I oddly think they'll actually be better from here on out for the rest of the season because of it. The very visible distraction is gone, and Rossi and Buium have the ability to make a tangible impact for the team this year. They just got two young good players (+) who are going to roll into that Vancouver room knowing they're wanted and they can just run on the positivity.
Hate the Canucks, but excellent job here by them. Good on Minnesota too because they got a top-5 defenceman in the league.

I also agree. The biggest distraction on the market is now gone, not that they're the same tier but teams who didn't land Hughes may pivot and pay more attention to Raz who is having a banger of a season. This could also begin an arms race here in the West.

You say this like the Canucks wanted trade him...best dman in franchise history and they are forced to move him at 26 because he wants out. This is not some big win for them.

I highly doubt that.

Slam dunk trade for Minny if they can extend Hughes next season. That core is gunna be entertaining. Solid return for Canucks given the situation.
