If Andersson would get a protected 1st, Conroy would have driven him to the airport himself.

Minnesota traded their #2 center; they could use Naz. Not sure they have cap space

Value of players seems to change season by season. They are totally different Defensemen and yes Hughes is elite but the framework idea is there.

On the CHI telecast they're talking about the Hughes trade and the PBP guy sad "and there wasn't even an extension involved".
Umm dude, he CAN'T be extended yet.

The trade value doesn't as you're not going to get a package that big for Andersson ... but I do wonder if teams that were looking for a dman would move to look at Andersson now with Hughes off the market and maybe they convinced themselves they are able to move a piece they weren't likely to move otherwise

Better tax situation than Vancouver, but not as good as it could be. Roughly equivalent to NJ.

I am in the minority but I think this is a good move and gamble by the Wild. The Wild get to sell him on their organization. They just acquired the second best, if not, the best defenseman in the league. He is such a game changer. They have increased their chances of going far this year by adding him.
They do have contract options available to Hughes that other teams can not offer. Money talks. If there is no progress on contract talks in the summer, they can still recoup some assets back, or maybe just go all in again next year. If I was a Wild fan I would be happy.

It seems as though making a player available and selling them quickly CAN yield excellent results. Who would have guessed.

You think if the Flames could get a 1st from any team, he would already have been traded?

|
That team is going nowhere under Fitzgerald. He can’t pay up when it matters and just kicks rocks while other GMs are willing to take big swings.
Hughes should be in Jersey, it was a layup. He pulled the same stupid stunt with the Markstrom trade and was just lucky he was still around when he was finally ready to pay up. Unfortunately when you’re after a player like Hughes you can’t play stupid games.

Except there was a very limited number of teams Tkachuck would OK a sign-and-trade with. Different scenarios.

Its a haul for Hughes, which obviously makes sense for players his calibre.
But the Wild still receive the best player, so its hard to say who wins.
The pick wont be a high pick, so VAN is banking on Buium becoming Hughes light as a floor and his ceiling is obviously higher.
Its pretty darn close, but if Hughes ups and leaves in 2 years I'd have to lean on VAN winning the trade, unless the wild win the cup in the next 2.

Will Hughes be the first $20M player? You can't trade those assets and not go all-in on the contract offer
