It's funny that the Oilers are already dipping into 2029 draft picks. It's doubtful the current GM will be the one feeling that one.

Shrewd pick by the pens to pick up though. McDavid will be gone by that season so that pick has a good chance to be in the 30th-32nd overall range (i.e. roughly equal in value to a late first round pick by then).

The miraculous run of Pickard still finding a way to stay in the league continues.
4.04 GAA
.851 Sv%
May we all pray for that lack of job accountability in our working lives.

Good for Skinner - I think that him leaving his hometown where he was always under the microscope will be a positive development for him and his family. The guy was blamed for absolutely everything by the fans here and when there is crap like threats against him and his family it makes me quesiton why anyone would want to put up with that.
Kulak has been a dependable defenseman for years for the Oilers but I do think that he has taken a bit of a step back in his game. He is still a really good 5/6 defenseman who is a little bit overpaid for what he currently brings.
As for Jarry I haven't watched him enough to know if his statistics are a result of him being on a bad team or if he has just taken a step back in his NHL performance, or maybe both. The Oilers did need to make a change though and it makes sense to try something different. I honestly thought that they would make a run for Demko for picks and at least have a goaltender who while fragile could also be elite when healthy.

Yep, that's essentially getting a 1st in 2029.

Oh. Well. Then in that case everything is fine isn't it?
Having two Connor's on the same team will be problematic during team breakfasts at Smitty's for pancakes.

Well, the Oilers stay true to their identity and add another predator to their organization.

I don't love this deal for PIT, especially considering how desperate EDM was getting for a goalie. If EDM manages to stabilize the goaltending position, then it's a homerun for them.
This trade makes me appreciate the Markstrom return even more.

Its not a huge bump in goaltending, I mean Jarry has to play behind that defense and lazy forward group.
Kulak leaving that blueline and Stastney stepping in feels like a downgrade, though Stastney is younger. But right now he's averaging about 5 minutes less a game then Kulak and is a bottom pairing guy, but who knows maybe he's a defensive wizard that I don't know about.
Poulin is a former first round draft pick that seems to be having trouble doing anything at an NHL level but the Oilers have to be desparate for some youth in their system and he's still only 24.
The Oilers give up draft picks that they can't really afford to give up, but they suck at drafting outside of the first round anyways.
This is at best a lateral move, but downgrading the blueline for a new goalie isn't much of a answer.

Jarry was waived last year ! They couldn’t give him away
Now after 16 games of a .908 save percentage he’s the answer ….

And we all know how notoriously hot awesome Edmonton is at developing prospects.

Pens fan I trust also says Jarry is "pretty much an older and more expensive Skinner". Hope she's right lol.

We shouldn't pretend to not remember how often Skinner would let in a basic shot or make a poor decision outside of his crease that results in a goal. I don't recall Jarry having that many brain farts so regularly. It isn't an obvious upgrade for Edmonton on paper with their similar stats, but losing those unpredictable events that are big time momentum swingers against the Oilers is a good thing for them.

Poulin cleared waivers in October. The Oilers could have had him for free.
He is also a group 6 UFA.

Skinner is a mid goalie but the issue is much deeper then that.
The Oilers are a terrible defending team. That d-core is atrocious with Bouchard and Nurse eating up 20m.

So...they traded assets for people they could have had for free.
That is very Oilers of them.

Put it this way, the Penguins are ahead of the Coil in the standings and didn't make this trade to get worse.
