Mall at Heritage and Deerfoot?
I don't get around Calgary too often, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into this mall. I see they have a Futureshop, Sportchek and Moores. But do they have any clothing stores like A.E. Outfitters, Old Navy, FCUK?

I could be wrong but I think the only clothes store is Marks Work Warehouse.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard of the high-end fashion mall that's apparently going into that area along with some hotels and such? My wife was talking to one of the developers who claimed that they had a few high-end boutiques like Prada lined up. Concept would be a sort of cobblestone pedestrian walking area. Seems to make little sense to me in terms of general concept and location.

Then all they have to do is get rid of the noise from the Deerfoot.

No they are not.
The GE database pre-dates the Mall construction....

I work for a high-end retailer in the area and have also heard of this plan. I think it's well beyond the speculative stage. With high-end car dealers in the immediate area, it's not a stretch to imagine high-end couture here as well.

Yeah, there is no way in hell high-end retailers will set up shop in that suburban abomination. Why? They sell high-end products and wouldn't want to be associated with the typical big-box/power center retail product.

I believe Waterfront's chances are a lot better and its location is fitting; downtown/central. Stores like Prada and Gucci are suited for posh high-streets not suburban power centers. I’d like to see one of those high-end retailers open in LaCaille on 4th. LaCaille

Not shopped down here much, I gather. Last I checked, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Bentley were all relatively high-end. There is some very big money involved in Deerfoot meadows. If they want high-end boutique shopping down here, I'd bet they stand a pretty good chance of getting it.

This isn't Deerfoot but I know that Crowfoot Shanks, Tony Romas, and Outbacks are getting torn down. I only know that Shanks is getting turned into a Best Buy.

I was just down in Deerfoot Meadows yesterday to hit the Future Shop and there is a big advertising sign for a high end retail group - right across from the EB Games/Starbucks/Future Shop location. The actual name is on the tip of my tongue but it looks like they will indeed be building it soon.

Yeah I think Deerfoot Meadows is throwing out the fishing line a bit with promoting that high end stuff, with nothing confirmed actually in there yet.
People expecting Prada and Burberry store may end up getting Esprit and FCUK.
There may be BMW and Infiniti across the road, there's also a Chrysler and a Ford Dealership next to them, a few used car dealers up the hill behind Costco too.
I'll agree with the poster that said those sort of high end places don't fit well (I've never seen them, anyways, in the US) into the mega power centre concept, no matter how they want to dress it up to look like an outdoor version of the Shoppes at Caesars in Vegas or not.
That said, an small, indoor upscale mall with those stores, now that may be an idea that has better merit to attract true high end luxury item related stores such as clothing stores, the Rolex and Omega dealers etc. I've seen, such as in Anaheim and in Phoenix, there are open air higher end outdoor walking malls with these types of stores...but this is Calgary, that until Starbucks comes up with a fully insultated thermal body suit that delivers coffee intravenously, Ms. Snotty Nose will book a flight to Palm Springs and shop at Burberry there long before she gets out her Land Rover in mid Febuary to trapse through a biting north wind blowing through that flat stretch of swampland to get to the Burberry store here.

Yeah, the developer that was trying to sell my wife on the idea of relocating there, was citing the Grove complex in LA (next to the old farmer's market... actually quite a nice development).
I can't help but feel that in wintertime, it would look like something out of Dickens: a few huddled and tattered wanders hobbling up and down cobblestone streets, peering into the windows at fine clothes they could never hope to afford, wishing that they could go in simply to warm up, but feeling the humiliation of the snooty and classist shop-keepers, wondering if they could possibly scrounge the money together for a Gucci handbag but knowing that such a choice would force them to eat nothing more than bland meatballs from the Ikea cafeteria for the next month.

I think Mark's Work Wearhouse and Coast Mountain Equipment Sports, also Moore's men's wear and there is a ladies shoe shop beside Jysk.

I saw the same sign. It was something like "The Boutiques at Deerfoot Meadows" or something like that. The artists rendering makes it look very fancy...almost like something you would expect downtown.
