Exactly - defense is a learned skill. Parekh has a very high hockey IQ, is a good skater, and has elite edges - plenty of tools to become a good, or even great, defender, assuming he wants to be. And by all accounts, he does.
As I have said before, Quinn Hughes was a HORRIBLE defender when he entered the league. But he learned how to use his skills effectively. IMO, he is the best example of what Parekh, and his skill set, can be.
Just blurting 'he's terrible defensively' is lazy, and already inaccurate.

You’d take Karlsson over Makar? because that was the actual comparison.
The guy everyone uses for a while and pays a lot of money for and then gets rid of when they learn he’s a liability? Give me Hedman, or Makar, or Doughty, or someone else who’s contributed to a cup winner in a major way.
You know as well as I do that the Norris has often gone to guys who put up gaudy offensive stats over better all around defencemen.

I think they were just saying 'if Parekh ends up like Karlsson, that would be just fine'. Don't think they were comparing to Makar.

hahaha. he isn't even a real defenceman. A team that has him on the top pairing will never win anything significant. What the hell were the Pens thinking re-signing him.

Pens did not re-sign him they traded for his contract that was signed by the Sharks.
Karlsson was a key component on conference finals runs for both the Sens and Sharks which is something the Flames have yet to do in the cap era

Whole team sucked when Parekh was playing. If he had played the last month I'm guessing he would have looked a lot better alongside the rest of the team

I was and that's what they responded to. I said I'd rather Parekh turned out to be a great offensive defenceman who could play defence like Makar, than a one way guy like we mock up north.

Beats your everything is terrible fandom...anyway wait a couple weeks. We can bump this when Zayne is on the ice a ton...including with a one goal lead.
Zayne was a +82 his last two years in junior, he isn't the defensive liability that didn't play in tight games some are seeming to suggest...especially at this level.

Such a shame he can't play in the AHL this season. That's the perfect place for him to finish this year IMO.

Saginaw sucks this season so if he goes back to junior he could potentially return by the end of March giving him a dozen games with the Wranglers. Though they'd probably trade his rights I'd imagine

It was a stupid take to say they wont want him out late up by a goal...a take that will be proven wrong in a couple weeks.

(to protect a lead) and no it won't I think the article was talking more generally not for the upcoming world juniors. Even so is Parkeh someone you see protecting a one goal lead with minutes remaining for Team Canada?
