SOBO was last week, Conoco and Parkland to come. No wonder why Costcos are so busy on weekdays now....
Seems bizarre to me. I think pensions are a big part of it. They want to reach a number.

I hate bumping this thread, but I've gotten 3 phone calls just today from clients who got their walking papers.

Some little company that rhymes with Ce-knows-Us appears to be doing a hefty round.

Well they have to reach their ”efficiencies” after purchasing MEG.

Why some otherwise inauspicious Tuesday in December?

I cant really speak to that per se, but the people I talked to today were long-term Cenovus employees.

Kiwetinohk, which rhymes with absolutely nothing, dumped a large number last week, after its plan of arrangement went through.

It would depend on who is cheaper. If you suddenly have two guys for the same job and guy M has a lower salary then long term C guy can get the papers.

We had a deal to buy them but fell through at the end. Who ended up getting them?

I remember him from the Seven Generations days. Played hockey with his son.

Are there any Calgary HR types here? I've always had the suspicion that when you're laid off without cause, it's common practice that you're on an unofficial "do not hire / let this person consult" at this place ever again list.

That true? Sure I know of exceptions, but they seem to be just that. Or is this more of the company assuming that bridge is burnt with the employee?

I dont know why you would mark someone as not eligible for rehire if it was without cause term unless theres more to the story. (It might legally be without cause but there is still...cause) Probably varies by company policy and case by case . Where I work (not O&G) we reserve "do not rehire" strictly for exceptional cases of misconduct, theft, etc.

It’s situational. But a lot of without cause firings are performance based so it could be a situation where they may not be interested again. Not necessarily a do not hire list.

You want to hire someone you punted? or you got punted and they want to hire you back?

Regs changed, and the work I was hired to do is probably going to be delayed a couple years. There's the potential for what I bring to be needed then. So I'm expecting to be cut - just debating if I self select or wait out the axe (recognizing the 'package' isn't going to be more than 3-4 weeks with a year of service vs 2 weeks notice if I self select)
