Gretz was pretty embarrassing but did make sense for a famous Canadian.

I don't usually cheer for Portugal; but seeing Ronaldo live at a World Cup round of 16 match in Vancouver would be unbelievable!

Its a shame we cant have a Portugal vs. Uruguay match so we could have Ronaldo punch someone in the spine while Suarez bites someone. Now that would sell tickets!

We will know for sure today but Portugal could have a crazy schedule. They could start in Mexico, then Houston and Atlanta. R32 in KC then R16 in Vancouver. If they meet Canada in R16, it would be Canada's 4th match at BC Place.

I can’t recall where this was left, was there a formal FIFA approval process for venues for teams to set up camps?
Or do potential cities just have to have FIFA approved fields?
Calgary is a great location for holding camps. Obviously because of training at altitude but also proximity. McMahon now being FIFA. Spruce Meadows in the air as well.
Denver probably as well would be similar, and closer to to Houston Dallas and Mexico etc.
I would assume those sort of camp setup cities would be announced pretty quick to get logistics planned well in advance.

So sounds like Canada will get all the lesser matches, and they'll give the US the premier events? Not surprised.

Will definitely see who’s spending their bribes wisely.
Every team outside of Mexico will want to play in one of the 4 indoor venues.
Times and travel are less important, as the weather in mid summer being potentially brutal. Atlanta, Dallas Houston and Vancouver are where countries will want only in a controlled temperature environment.

New Zealand might be a good story, I can see the locals getting behind them.
Also the small teams have to go for it which makes a fun match unlike the big teams who just want to get through.
Like England vs Croatia 75% will be a draw.

The good news with the lackluster matchups in Canada is you may get to see some $20 tickets come matchday. And not just Canada, a lot of these matchups are just limited in their appeal and "going to the World Cup!" is not a good enough selling point at the face value of these tickets.

As the TSN panel says, BMO field is the smallest stadium in this WC and basically ugliest stadium with a lot of temporary seating.
That matters when it’s showcased for a world wide television audience with big match. No England, no France/Senegal as a result.

San Francisco probably has the least desirable set of teams and set up.
The get a lot of games but don’t get Argentina from the main group, or the US from the other group they host, but the rest of and have Jordan Algeria Switzerland Qatar Paraguay and lower ranked playoff team.
Toss in a couple 9pm and 8pm local time starts.
Japan Tunisia in Monterey sounds like a lowly attended game but Monterey doesn’t have many games so more chance of people coming out for any game.
