Why in the ever loving #### are there so many drivers in this city doing u-turns is any ####ing location that they ####ing desire?
Single lane road, double yellow line? U-turn.
4 way stop? U-turn.
At red light busy intersection? U-turn.
#### all you ####ers. It was especially bad this morning and the fog on top of that. Had to lay on my horn multiple times.
The problem is other people moving from other places, Alberta is quite restrictive on where U-turns can be made legally (unnecessarily so IMHO). In Manitoba, for example, U-turns are allowed except where signed otherwise. So I was surprised when I first moved here and my uncle was swearing about "some idiot making a U-turn" and I didn't understand what his deal was.
Quote:
U-turns are not permitted:
- at an intersection controlled by a traffic control signal (traffic lights) unless permitted by a traffic control device
- where a sign prohibits U-turns
In urban areas, U-turns are not permitted:
- on a roadway between intersections
- at an alley intersection
- at an intersection where one or more of the roadways is an access to a public or private parking lot which the public can access
So really -- in the city -- you can make a U-turn at a stop sign or yield-controlled intersection provided one of the turns does not lead into a parking lot and that's about it. You can't pull the ol' Toronto favourite of just ripping a U-turn in the middle of the street. And rurally, you can do 'em pretty much anywhere including on a highway except where an intersection is controlled by lights and/or where it isn't signed as prohibited to do so.
I had a grand total of one terrible dome beer last night. Laughed my arse off. Wife insists on driving at night because my eyes suck at night. But she is a driver that is not all that good. Very jerky and stop and starty if that makes sense.
My buds and his wife in the car so I got back seat. most of the way home I am like "I think I'm gonna puke". Please pull over. She needs to audit this request for a minute and a half with stupid questions. So my torso is out the window barfing while she cannot figure out where to pull over on this 99% empty street.
She stops next to this lady shovelling her sidewalk at 10:30 at night 2 feet from me. Are you kidding? So we pulled up to a stranger and I puked next to her then drove away. And they are all laughing their asses off at me after this. Felt fine after 12 barfs. Still angry. Prob won't talk for a week.

The damned U turn rules are so messed up because they didn't want them allowed anywhere in cities except in very specific places like on the military bases.

I almost never tip Uber drivers. Especially more recently, where their 'tip' would be "you've no business being this sh-t at driving if you're going to make a living doing it professionally, go take a driving class". Just the absolute worst drivers in the city. Every time I take one, I feel like Donny at the beginning of "Gone in 60 Seconds" where he's working as a driving instructor.
"Don't look at me, look at the people next to you! Nex... Look at the... - well, turn the wheel! Pull over, pull her the hell over! Don't touch nothing! You can't negotiate turns. You can't signal properly. You can't maintain speed. You can't parallel park. Hell, you can't drive, honey. Sh-t, I can't swim, I know I can't. So you know what I do? I stay my black ass out the pool!"
I just stare at my phone and try not to catch a glimpse of their f-ckery.
I twice paid extra for a "Luxury" Uber. It was for date nights.
The first one was a Lexus that rolled up on the donut spare. Ok, he had an appointment for me and the missus, and swapped that thing out on the side of the highway. Cool, I respect that.
Then I got in, and found the back seats were held together with duct tape.
Lesson Learned? Naw.
Paid again a year later and got... a Tesla. Which the driver didn't know how to drive based on the herkey jerkey start and stop driving style. Best guess he was fighting the self drive the whole way? No idea. Wanted to barf.
"Luxury" Uber sucks because near as I can tell nobody driving for Uber actually owns a luxury automobile.

And then default to the French version because the coder went to Montreal once.

Some people have exceedingly high expectations for Uber/Taxi/Skip the dishes drivers and how well they drive. They are not professionally trained drivers like some people think they are. The vast majority of them are from exceedingly poor countries where the rules of the road are suspect at best, those skills carry over to life in Canada wither or not people think they should. These jobs often don't really pay any decent money all factored in and the nature of the job requires you to check out a screen every few seconds, hence why they never learn the city! Contrast this with professional bus drivers in any city where they actually know their route without staring at an iPhone every 5 seconds.

Did you subtly blame immigrants and compare driving the same route again and again to driving numerous different routes?

I think people's expectations of Uber drivers are actually really low. They just want them to be safe and obey traffic laws. That's just too much to ask

Also, don't talk to me.
