Next they get to face the generational goalie they passed up for Xavier Bourgault in Jesper Wallstedt!

At the 2021 draft, the Oilers had the 20th selection. The Oilers brain trust felt the most prudent move was to trade down 2 spots with Minnesota, trading the 20th overall for 22nd and 90th.

Minnesota used the 20th pick to select goaltender Jesper Walstedt. NHL Rookie of the Month for November, who just stopped 32 shots to shutout the Oilers.

With the 22nd pick, the Oilers selected Xavier Bourgeault. They passed on Wyatt Johnston, leaving him for the Stars to select with 23rd overall. Johnston put up 4 points a week ago in the 8-3 mauling of the Oilers. 4 points is twice as many as Trent Frederic (8x$3.85M) has all season. Bourgeault never played an NHL game for the Oilers before being traded.

With the 90th pick they got from trading down, the Oilers selected Luca Munzenberger. After 4 years in College, he went unsigned. He is currently playing for the 2nd tier league in Germany.

Just another massive L for the dumpster fire up north.

Pretty grim, the Oilers have 27 points in 27 games. It looks like the playoff boundry could be lets say 96 points.

That means in the last 55 games, they're going to need 70 points or 35 wins, so like a record or 35-20-0 or roughly a .636 win percentage

This may have already been mentioned, but the Oilers get to play three different teams on their second game of a back to back during this homestand.

Just noticed that the rebuilding, bottom feeder Flames are only 5 points back of the "Cup favourite" Oilers. Hilarious.

Same points the Flames ended up behind them at the end of last season. I was just looking and the Flames over the last 10 games have made up points on everyone in the division, except LA. Man does the Pacific ever suck again.

Hockey guru Staples advocating for Frederic to be put in the press box for a few games. Yes, the same Frederic that just signed an 8 year contract.

Mavi will be thinking that he should have just taken the money.

If he hadn’t signed he’d be looking at leaving already. Good job Connor

I still think what looks like a stupid move of his was to make him more easily tradeable, I hate that the Oilers could get assets for him.

Nah it was so he could leave without being considered abandoning or being an #######. Him and his wife have roots here, businesses, and I would betcha someone way smarter than me figured that keeping a reputation this way in marketing is probably worth more than he left on the table.

Now he gets to exit saying he did his part and not one fan can blame him.

Brilliant actually, but I would have still ####ing ran for the hills.

3 of 4 wins have been 3v3... @OTT, @PHI, @CAR (played VAN to OT the night before). Only regulation win was against SEA, leaving CAR as the only non-bubble playoff team they beat.

0-3 at home against playoff teams for a combined 18GA/4GF.

Add in having a top 10 hardest remaining schedule, we could see the Oiler's picking before the Flames this summer.

Imagine the chaos up there if they had this start to the season and McDavid wasn’t signed. The trade talk would be immense at this point.

I knew they lost last night because Sportsnet has absolutely nothing about the game on the homepage.
