Yup, specifically Celebrini. Admittedly I haven't watched too many full games of his but his highlights include defensive backchecks and lifting pucks from guys all the time. He wasn't supposed to be this good but is. I don't see the downside from including him. Bedard I can potentially see being left off because his emergence this year but Celebrini totally should be on there because of his consistency.

Stellar.

While appearing on the Real Kyper & Bourne radio show, DeBoer was asked about adapting to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) ruleset on the Olympic stage. But as it turns out, one of the biggest adjustments DeBoer and Canada's team full of NHL players will have to make is playing on a smaller ice surface.

"Actually, the ice surface, it looks like it's going to be smaller than NHL rink standards, by probably three or four feet," DeBoer said. "I don't understand how that happened."

There is real concern the arena wont even be ready for the games.

Quote:
Concerns continue to grow for hockey players ahead of the 2026 Olympics. Athletes were already informed to be prepared for accommodations falling well below what they're accustomed to as professional hockey players, but now the real concern is if the main hockey venue for the Olympic tournament will even be complete.

Significant concern arose this week when a test event scheduled for the venue between January 9-11 had to be preemptively moved as work on the venue will not be complete. Puck drop on the 2026 ice hockey tournament is scheduled for February 5, just over two weeks after the already cancelled test event.

Perhaps more concerning is the fact that in the past, Olympic hockey venues have held test events a year or more in advance, not weeks, and the inability to host those test events weeks before the tournament is set to begin is raising alarm bells.

As The Associated Press noted, it's not only about ensuring the ice surface is ready and safe, it's also about ensuring the venue has functioning washrooms, concessions, and other aspects that could impact, not only the fan and athlete experience, but safety.

Well...no one has ever accused the Italians of being punctual.

I am surprised about the 'below par' warnings regarding accommodations though, I mean, this is Milan after all, not some backwater country-bumpkin establishment.

After all this buildup about NHL players returning to the Olympics, who would have guessed it would be the Italians to sabotage the whole thing?

My bet is that the Italians' palms were meant to be greased but the IOC kept too much for themselves so now the work 'is gunna take a little longer.'

Classic Italy.

Hopefully the stands aren't made out of breadsticks...

They're just putting the finishing touches on the stadium. All blown out of proportion.

Still think it was a huge miss not getting these olympics in Calgary... especially when the arena went through in the end anyways

Could it be worse than what happened in Russia? The amount Russia paid to build the facilities was staggering, and it sounded like most of it went into the pockets of chronies. I guess in Russia, the mafia is the government.

Sad that it was voted down, but I also remember it to be a pretty mediocre plan that not even the proponents were particularly excited about.

Would've been nice though!

Yeah, it seems like there are always stories like this just before the Olympics.

I think they should move on from having these big all-in-one mega events in one city or region. Let different cities around the world host different types of events and show that they already have facilities available before bidding. Make it a truly global event. If you're a multi-event athlete, then pick your spot.

It largely is.
