Everyone cares
Gridin will breathe life into games that matter....no one's dyin

Sandman - what is your opinion on Frk getting a call-up at some point?

He's on an AHL contract this season, so he'd have to sign an NHL deal before that would even be possible.

Frk IMO, had a few stints in the NHL with a few different teams, and there times when he didn’t look at all like an NHL player to me. He always had some skill, and was a pretty high draft pick, but always seemed to have problems with the speed of the game. It looks to me like he’s made plenty of adjustments to his game, including his defensive play, and he plays with some power, but I’m not sure he skates well enough for the NHL.
Even saying that, if he were signed to an NHL deal, I would at least reward him with a call-up- and it would be interesting to see what he can do these days. Just my opinion.

Gridin up to 1.176 PPG through 20 games.
Higher than Rantanen’s 1.154 through 52 games as a 19 year old.
Still behind Nylander’s 1.184 as a 19 year old in 38 games and Spezza’s 1.256 PPG in 43 games as a 19 year old.

Frank Nazar is another interesting comparison. He had 24 in 21 (1.14) last year in the AHL before being called up and never looking back.

Who would have thought a Sutter-coached team would be so high scoring?

He’s the one guy on the Wranglers that I think should be called up. Even over Kerins. He doesn’t look like he needs to figure things out. He looks like it is all figured out and he’s waiting for a call.

Gridin also 9th in the AHL for shots on goal with 54 in 17 games (3+ per game). Top in the AHL is Arthur Kaliyev with 68 shots in 17 games - Kaliyev being 5 years old than Gridin with 200+ NHL games played. Gridin has the makings of an elite sniper so I hope he keeps it up and that shot volume translates to the NHL.

Wranglers lose 3-0 to the Barracuda. Wranglers were also outshot 33-22.
Prosvetov stops 30 of 33. He is 7-5-1-1, with a 3.09 GAA, and a .901 SV%.

Brett Sutter’s thoughts on Gridin, Suniev, Basha, Morin, King, and Frk
https://flamesnation.ca/news/several...-the-wranglers
On Morin:
Quote:
|
“Yeah, you know, he’s one of those guys that he’s an offensive guy and if you’re gonna try to get minutes for there’s [Brzustewicz] and Poirier then you got [Miromanov] coming, like there’s only so many of those offensive minutes to go around and it’s not right to put him in a checking role and in a way that he’s not really ready for. Like that’s part of his game that needs the most work is the defending and he’s really got to keep working on his feet and his gaps and closing quickly and those areas so it’s just one of those things where it’s gonna take time. He’s had a great attitude about it. He’s continued to work. He’s had a good start now that he’s been down in Rapid and you know, the message to him is just every day in practice, treat it like a game. Like every day, we want you to push to close those gaps as quick as you can in practice and if you get beat wide then that’s okay. We can live with that just as long as you’re pushing yourself, continue to get better every day, then that’s been the message.”

Not particularly worried about Morin yet. Defensemen take time. Look how long it took Kuznetsov, and he was a second-rounder just like Morin. That's one of the bonuses of having a secondary affiliate. If he does well there the organization will make room for him.

It has been way too long since the Wranglers last played. Gridin hasn't scored a goal in days now. Not cool.

Thanks Freeway. Always interesting to see some feedback even from my vantage point. This season is definitely testing Carter's mental strength. To go from playing first line, PP and PK for 25 minutes a game on a national championship team to playing limited minutes on the fourth line with Alex Gallant (no offense to Gallant!), its been an adjustment to say the least. Working on your game and trying to gain confidence in it is the challenge of a lifetime.
I do believe that he'll work his way up as he always has and become one of their most important players - whether its this year or next.
Character building!!
