There is no instant fix for this franchise. They’ll have to dig their way out the hard way. Drafting smart, asset management and development. If they avoid the trap of impatience, we’ll have something exciting in two years and something great in five.
Well, Look at SJ, Anaheim and Chicago, they wouldn’t have all the exciting young players drafting in the middle.

Look at the Flames draft history, how many star players did they get from the middle to bottom of the first?

Nobody cheers for loss but that’s the consolation prize considering any win is meaningless in term of playoffs

It's definitely stop time.
Is tonight the end of the season? How can the Flames draft #1 when there is over half a season left? And you must have more confidence in the NHL to run a fair lottery than I do.

Our team is not very good this year. But they have a great work ethic that means wins will happen. I can't be bothered losing my #### when they win a couple of games.

Accept the wins and losses. That's what I am doing.

Win or Lose I'm thinking this game is going to be all kinds of grim.

Just two one-legged men trying to kick each other.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to be a fan, it just comes down to what you prioritize and what the consequences of that decision are.

If you prioritize the long-term, the team losing now will give you the best shot at high draft picks, which historically has been the clearest path towards success. Trade off is that is sucks to lose, it will take years, and there are no guarantees of success.

If you prioritize wins now, then clearly you cheer for this current team and maybe get a bit more enjoyment. Trade off is that you probably won't win anything of consequences, and you probably are just prolonging the mediocrity, and delaying the inevitable anyway.

But either way, something has to give. You can't cheer for wins now, but also expect to draft elite talent that could put you over the top. Gotta decide what's more important to you. Of course this is the Flames, so chances are we'll get both ends of the crap sandwich anyway.

So I have zero shame in saying I'm full on board team tank. It's the only real way out of this mess for this lukewarm organization. Never mind that all the talk of Top 5 prospects has been way more fun than anything that's happened on the ice from the last few years anyway. I want more of that, not less.

So yeah, for today atleast, go Preds!
Which is fine. But don't come into the PGT after whining how we beat the Preds big time like some other people on here..... lol

Does Cooley start again? He's been on a heater.

edit: just answered. Him and Kuznetsov the stories of the year. Didn't see that coming

The Flames were 7-6-2 in November. Good for 16th overall in the league.

It is not a great pattern if you want to see a top pick, if this trend continues we could be out of the bottom 5 very quickly.

You can cheer for wins but not expect to get many and be ok with it because it could lead to drafting an elite player.

And they were 2-8-2 in October.

One was a slump, the other a bit of a heater with a very hot goalie.

I suspect the truth is somewhere in between the two, and I don't see much reason to get panicky about it.

Cooley has been good but this feels a little Chad Johnsoney to me. He'll cool off. No pun intended.

You can, but history has shown that to be fairly low-percentage way to actually win a cup.

Like I said, you can cheer in whatever fashion you want, as there are no guarantees of success either way... but personally I'd rather play the better odds for winning the whole thing, than to hope to be an outlier.

A loss tonight would be an early Christmas gift.

It's a great day for Flames hockey.

Also, this run of Cooley...as a point of criticism, is just the coaching staff chasing a win without a larger view of a 'plan'.

I still think it's silly to not have a 'plan' at that level. I don't think coaching with a day-to-day perspective is how coaches grow with a team - but I know it's how hockey teams operate, and it's why you see coaches treated like a disposable paper cup. It's definitely an opinion held, seemingly, NHL-wide, so not a Flames problem - but something that I think is just done incorrectly.

The start of the year was awful, and has sewered the season for the club. But IMO Flames are a team that can play NHL .500 or better the rest of the way.

How many losses do they need to secure the number one pick?

You're ruining the board with this stuff on repeat.
