Going on year 4 of this iteration - borring, low skill, low scoring, no high picks and no playoffs.

This isn't Europe where you get relegated if you suck. This is North America; you get rewarded with a potential franchise player if you suck!

I would be rooting for a win if the team was composed full of young prospects. However, with the current roster, I'd prefer to see a lot of losses with some bright spots.

A high draft pick is the consolation prize for the suffering/lack of joy of a terrible season.

If you enjoy the losses, why should you get a consolation prize?

If you don’t enjoy wins now, you don’t deserve to enjoy wins later.

That is what it looks like when you are trying to tank/rebuild. We are in year 3 of that tank/rebuild process. Probably a couple more years of it left.

We are never getting a McDavid. Never, ever, ever.

And no one in the next two drafts is of that calibre.

McKenna = Huby

There is no instant fix for this franchise. They’ll have to dig their way out the hard way. Drafting smart, asset management and development. If they avoid the trap of impatience, we’ll have something exciting in two years and something great in five.

Personally, I've been a fan through 35+ years of mediocrity already... so I'm pretty secure in my fan card no matter what "real fan" zingers people try to throw out there.

So I have zero shame in saying I'm full on board team tank. It's the only real way out of this mess for this lukewarm organization. Never mind that all the talk of Top 5 prospects has been way more fun than anything that's happened on the ice from the last few years anyway. I want more of that, not less.

So yeah, for today atleast, go Preds!

Not if they lost the lottery.

The last and second last teams don’t draft by position.

so you're telling me you're a lifelong Flames fan who ultimately wants what's best for the team, you want to see them win a Stanley Cup, you understand the position the team has gotten themselves into by December, and you realize an unprecedented opportunity for a top pick/franchise altering player is at stake, and you're logically hoping for that outcome as opposed to winning meaningless games!?

wow, what a terrible fan!!! you don't deserve any more wins!!!! *inhales own fart*

if you want to cheer for wins, cheer for wins. nobody's saying that's wrong. but turning your nose up at or pretending not to understand why a fan would want losses at this point is braindead. at the end of the day what makes you a fan of this team is the ultimate desire to see them succeed

I've been cheering ineffectively for playoff series wins for 30 years, so I just wanted to change it up and cheer for a direction i actually think will get us those. Cheering for Maloney's vision seems masochistic, generously.

Yes!

Lets discuss this again!

I too have been a fan since the beginning ... had season tickets in the Coral and the Saddledome up to when my dad passed away and I had long since moved away from Calgary. I am also secure in my "fan card" as it is has been called.

I am actively cheering for wins ... do I care if we lose - no. Do I actively cheer for losses ... the day I do is the day I start cheering for another team. What would be the point. Do I get the love affair of being worst in the league and getting a high draft pick. Do I feel Calgary will ever get the number one pick even if we finish last - no. I guess I am too jaded to believe that there is nothing behind the scenes to massage where the first pick goes. Yes, I get the lottery, no I am not a conspiracy theory, but there are other better story lines out there and it always seems Calgary comes up on the short end of things in that regard.

I guess I should just go back to reading calgary puck rather than commenting on it, as it seems there is no way to reconcile my fandom without being part of the tank crowd. Definitely was one of the reasons why I abstained from commenting over the past years. Only really joined after my sons who are active posters frequented the board.

Look at the posts in this thread. Some people are acting all high and mighty that they are a true fan because they are cheering for wins.

As though the people cheering for us to get a good pick and lose aren't cheering for success in a different way.

A win puts them in 30th instead of 31st if the Canucks lose as expected.

"mUsHy mIdDlE"

You can cheer for wins but acknowledge a loss isn't the worst thing either.

Plenty of people say it’s wrong.

Here’s a fun thing: it’s possible to cheer for and enjoy wins, which are objectively better and more fun than losses, while recognizing the value of a loss. You don’t have to cheer for a loss or even want them for the team to draft high.

The worst team in the league gets anywhere from 19-29 wins each full season over the last decade or so. Seems a bit “brain dead” to not enjoy such a rare treat.

I'm all for the strategic tank as well. We're in a position where we can give more ice time to our younger players right now which will help their development, while also securing a high pick I have no problem with it.

It's not like a shameless tank either.. some of our core pieces decided to walk, and there's not much that could be done there. So you have to start fresh at some point
