Thanks Bingo. Wouldn’t the 30th place team be ahead of the other two, by definition? Guess you’re saying they started stronger.

I’d assumed that the other teams would have been sellers as well but I guess they were already bottomed out. Still they must have been dealing away a few players.

Big question with the Flames is how much they sell. And I also believe they are just better than bottom 3 in the league. They have been playing at 95 point pace for half of their season and have a steeper recovery than anyone else in this chart. It’s been nearly a V shape to date.

I assumed there would be more movement between team 30 and teams 31 and 32. I didn't alter the standings every day, I looked at team 30 for a full season.

Seems like there is a two teams of crud, and then a better team most years that doesn't slide down to the final two.

Thanks. I look at that chart and I see Flames as a team with a horrible start and not a horrible team. Guess we’ll see if they level off at 0.4 points percentage or what. Lots of season left.

Flames have had a tiny streak. Still on a 66 point pace.

Not that tiny. They’ve been playing at 95 point pace for half the season.

Don Maloney? Is that you??

And a 20 point pace for the other half. Why is one part of the season counted and not the other.

It's a three game winning streak. Last season the Sharks had two of those.

BTW, they have't been playing at a 95 point pace for half the season (13 games). They are have 14 points in their last 13 games. That's 88 points. Still obviously way more than the 25 point pace over the first 13, which you like to ignore.

And then there's the rest of the season, in which they will lose between 1 and 3 vets and maybe even more. And in which I expect some players like Cooley will regress a bit.

I’m counting both and not ignoring the first half. You’re saying we can’t look for trends though? I’m not cherry picking, it’s literally half the season. Just pointing out to you it is more than 3 games.

Let’s split the season in half again 10 games from now and see what their second half record is.

BTW they are 7-5-0-1 in their last 13 games. 15 points. 95 point pace.

Why don’t we just wait until the whole season is over.

That one point sure shows how silly the “pace” discussion is. They aren’t an 95 point team. They weren’t a 25 point team either.

It's too late to get there in total for this season but this team has played at a 95 point pace for a very extended period before.

No one is suggesting to not wait for the season to end but it would be oblivious to not notice how the team has been playing. And their points percentage has been steadily climbing.

Even if we had played at a 95 point pace for the whole season, you know where that puts us? Still either barely getting in or just missing... otherwise known as the mushy middle.

Another term I like to use for it is "the literal problem we're all trying to solve."

It's almost like a season has good and bad stretches.

If they traded Kadri, Rasmus and Coleman tomorrow and played Gridin, Kerins and Parekh or Brzu and had the same wins, people would still complain.

We just smoked the defending Stanley Cup Champions at home with our backup goalie and we have some loser whining and bitching all night long.

Get it through your head we will never finish bottom 5. and even if we did we would lose the lottery.

So we just accept mediocrity forever and never try something different?

I don't get it. We can rebuild and actually draft in the top 5.

If they did that they would be talking about trading Bahl and Weegar. Trading 7 vets for futures and picks was not enough, why would trading Rasmus, Kadri and Coleman be enough?

Sure you may want that but you will never get what you want. Look at our 43 year history. So just shut up about it.

Might as well go cheer for the Oilers. They will draft top 3 before we ever will.

Re the around the league report. I find it amusing that every single team’s fans think that a) they always have first NHL goals scored on them, and b) they always lose to rookie/backup goalies.

Wtf is wrong with you man?

1. We didn't smoke the defending Stanley Cup champs. They're missing half their lineup right now, including their two franchise players.
2. People are using a 95 point pace like it's something to be excited about. It's not. It's the same pace we play at every season, and it's what people are literally wanting to fix.
3. I haven't been bitching all night long. I've made exactly two comments about the Flames in this thread: the first was in support of Wolf and the second was the post you jumped all over.

So we just accept mediocrity. It is no wonder ownership is fine with doing nothing when there are people who are completely fine with the status quo and never winning.

you are going to have a very long year cheering for losses when we play in the crappiest division in the league.
