Agreed I should say they want some high draft picks. I agree the team has been rebuilding. They hopefully lean into this lost season so they can draft a difference maker who is not 5 years from making an impact.

I'm sure everyone you talk to wants a rebuild. I don't know of anyone on this site who doesn't. But outside of the people who follow everything they do, I doubt many casual fans gave the PR blunders much thought, especially before the pundits and podcasts started in.

Nobody is complaining about them extending Conroy

But more just questioning the need to try to make it seem like this was done before the season when all indications are it wasn't done, including them saying as much in an interview last week.

I agree with you Dino. I don’t think they are a last overall team either and no one wants to see the young players suck. Now some of the players that are stopping that from happening are players that won’t be here when the team is a contender.

Vegas had the number at 85.5 for the Flames at the start of the year and I’d say that is still in play. I took the over but with the start, it is no doubt a longer shot now. Still they have played at a 95 point pace for half their season.

It’s not even close.

Also, even if it was - it’s well earned. It’s one of the least successful ones in the NHL.

If this was signed before the season, which they say it was so I’ll believe it was - it speaks to them wanting to “manage” the messaging to the fans. Which just goes to show what they think of their fan base. They thought it would have gone over poorly because they were losing.

For fans who care, it wouldn’t matter.

For the people who don’t buy tickets, but rather get free tickets from those who buy tickets? It also wouldn’t have mattered, but for a different reason.

Aside from ensuring to state that the 'contracts were already signed' statement, nothing here is negative or a surprise. I don't see a reason why the Flames would have moved on from anyone here, Maloney included. Do a better job of PR please so we don't become a cringe franchise in addition to being a fringe franchise already please! Your fan base isn't stupid, and even when you have things in a logical manner, people are always going to dig into it. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before doing something, and not back-pedaling later on.


Hopefully we can just forget the events of November altogether. Rebuild is back on. McKenna, here we come!

The one thing that does make me a little nervous is the whole: "We have to be patient. We would like to be further along now, and where we are is a unexpected" thing - implying to me that they are somehow apologizing for being lower than expected - somehow responding to some backlash of "why aren't we better already?". I think the fan base is on the other side, no? Preferring to do a proper rebuild, vs 'get better right away'.


That's the only worry I have right now, but unless the Flames pivot, I believe they are going to rebuild properly and not try to fast-track this.
