Conroy is back on camera because he has a signed extension.

Deal signed before the season is pure BS. You just make posters on here and EF, Seravelli etc --- theyre just lying then? LOL ok.

only two weeks ago, I think reactions would have been different. Conroy deserved an extension, and if you're comfortable keeping the same support system around him, then why not. The organization just completely botched the whole PR around this, and the "this was actually signed before the season" is the icing on the bad PR cake. Peter Hanlon being promoted might have to do with this, but it's an area that needs cleaning up ASAP. This was bad in every aspect.

I wouldn't be surprised if 3 / 4 were signed before the season but there was some type of hold up with Conroy.

My lithmus test for this management group would be at this year's trade deadline.
Same.

Which is why I think that if you waited this long, you might as well have waited until after that was done.

Because Craig Conroy is a delight and Maloney and Nonis have prior experience being bad at their jobs.

Yeah weird one for them to sit on this so long and then if you are announcing it for good PR, why not just focus on Connie and not let slip that it was done in the summer but you just didn't bother telling your fans/customers. The whole PR approach lately feels not only very spin doctorish, but worse than that with amateur execution.

I get one of Nonis or Maloney mentoring Conroy a bit, even though I agree both of them have pretty poor track records from my perspective and personally would rather it be someone who actually won something, but it seems a bit bloated to have 2 failed GMs in senior VP/president type roles. I guess with how far below the cap the flames are one more big exec salary isn't the end of the world. Having Maloney, Nonis and then your former Communications VP all in a bloated hockey ops dpt with no one with any actual success building championship hockey teams leaves a lot to be desired.

I do not care who is occupying offices upstairs doing god knows what with their work days, as long as the "not a rebuild" rebuild continues.

conroy was clearly choosing his words carefully friday, cautious about contradicting a co-worker but also making zero mention of an improbable playoff push.

Article content
“you don’t want to just deviate off the plan, one way or the other,” conroy said. “but we know where we are. We’re realists. We are at the bottom of points percentage right now, that’s where we are. Now, we have to deal with that moving forward and we’ll look at all our options. That’s what we have to do. That’s part of the job.

After last week, I can't say I have a lot of faith in Maloney or the Flames management generally, but to play devil's advocate, I wonder if they're keeping Maloney around as PoHo because his responsibilities include overseeing the other CSEC teams - the Wranglers and Hitmen - in addition to the Flames. There's lots of administrative work required in managing multiple professional teams and a CHL team that have nothing to do with roster decisions and maybe Maloney is good at that?

The CSEC website doesn't show an Org Chat, but the Wranglers Front Office page shows lots of overlap with the Flames front office, so I'm guessing that Maloney plays a big role in both. Someone also has to manage the Flames relationship with the Rapid City Rush.

Then again, maybe Edwards just likes Maloney and trusts him to toe the company line?

Well TBF it was his show. Why were you thinking the song had to do with George Clooney?

God damn it...I was hoping they'd fire Maloney into the sun...I guess they need two more years for the cost of that technology to become more feasible.
