Remember the massive number of available goalies in the summer and they didn’t get any of them until Utah moved Ingram?
We need a list.
Allen; nope nope nope would rather stay behind Marky
Forsberg; no thanks, would rather go play for the team that can’t beat you in the playoffs
Georgiev; preferred to sign in Buffalo and not play a game in the NHL
Lyon; I too would prefer Buffalo over being behind that Oiler defence
Reimer; PTO with Leafs and now UFA and not taking Bowman’s calls
Rittich; no thanks; I’ll pass and go backup Sorokin
Samsonov; Edmonton? I’m going back to Russia instead
Vanacek; Oil no Mammoth yes
Vladar; Met with Edm just to flip them off on the way to Philly
Nedeljkovic; Threatened to burn the building down if sent to Edm, Pitt sends him to SJ
Fedotov; Columbus gets him from Philly for a 6th instead of sending him to Edmonton.
Copley; Given to LA from Tampa for future considerations, no goalie for you EDM
Gibson; wouldn’t waive for EDM goes to Detroit
Silovs; Canucks said piss off, sent to Pittsburgh
Hart; wouldn’t sign in EDM, chose Vegas
Binnington; wouldn’t waive for EDM
I guess Ingram is the one.

This should be a warning sign for any and all available goalie not waive or sign with the Oilers, doesn't matter how much they pay them.

As much as we love it, HoFer Matheson and the rest of the greaseballs media behave like spoiled entitled idiots. Matheson remember was the one who called pissy, well, pissy.
He’s lucky that skinner bothered to answer the question, never mind asking him back “so the fans want better reporting, that must hurt.”

Edmonton media reporting they are interested in Tristan Jarry. I say go for it Edmonton! Definitely the man you need!

Maybe. Is he still the starter in Pittsburgh? Or is he behind Silovs now? Pittsburgh is holding down a playoff spot right now so they might not be eager to trade away a goaltender… especially for the pittance that Edmonton could offer.

Like a couple weeks ago when the media asked Knob if the players have lost confidence in Skinner and he responded "I don't know".
Joke of a "team".

Just remember, Skinner has 1 save above expected this year. And the Oilers have the worst goalie stats in decades.
I wonder if there could be any correlation to playing awful defense and the goalie stats?

Who would have thought after the Oilers had paid out $3.6 million for both their goalies that they might not be as good as other teams?
The stats say they are the 32nd best pair. Their salary ranks them at 31st.*
You get what you pay for.
*32nd ranked salary are the Flames with a starter on a rookie contract.

The Oilers simply can not get any goaltender that has any sort of trade protection. Nobody is going to willingly stand in front of that team and be embarrassed every night, over and over.
That means they have no choice but to scour the bargain bins around the league. Not that I have a lot of faith in their scouting, but one of my biggest fears is they luck right out and end up with their "Kipper". Some third string somewhere just waiting to be a star.
Again, I can't see it, but it's in the back of my mind.
On the other hand, a great goalie can still only do so much in front of that defense, or lack thereof.

Dubnyk's later emergence as a really good goalie shouldn't have been a surprise really. He was statistically pretty good during more of his time in Edmonton outside of his rookie year and the end part of his tenure there. In the 3 seasons or so in between, he had the better SA% and win-loss record compared to the other goalies on the team, Khabibulin in particular. His GAA was not great, but neither was anyone else's and that is more of a team stat anyway.
They just love to scapegoat their goalies there.

Unless they find a superhero goalie, it isn’t going to help them at all. Edmonton ranks near the bottom in rush chances against, giving up some of the league’s highest rush xGA/60 and controlled-entry-against rates, which consistently expose their goalies to high-speed lateral plays. They’re equally poor in the defensive zone, sitting in the bottom five in slot shots against, high-danger chances against, and slot xGA, allowing opponents to attack the middle of the ice far too freely. Their inability to recover pucks compounds the issue because they are among the worst teams in net-front loose-puck recoveries and rebound chances allowed, turning harmless initial shots into extended pressure and second attempts. Edmonton also gives up volume from everywhere, allowing inflated shot totals across low, medium, and high-danger tiers, which reflects their struggles to exit the zone cleanly and break up cycles. The entire defensive structure leaks in every phase of play, from rush defense to slot coverage to sustained-zone pressure, creating one of the most difficult environments for any goaltender in the league, competing with teams like San Jose, Buffalo, and Chicago. I hope they blow some firsts because Skinner is an average NHL goaltender, not the problem.

Why do people claim McDavid is the best player in hockey? He doesn't bring physical play, is brutal defensively, is a questionable leader, and his best attribute, his scoring, he is third best at and maybe being pushed further down the ladder by Celebrini and Bedard in the near future.
He should have cashed in when he had a chance. The two year extension is going to be an epic mistake.
|
Yeah, he peaked in that 150 point year. Since then, he's lost that crown. Top 5 player now. And probably the last one you want captaining your team, by a country mile.
Draisaitl has slipped from top 5 to top 10. Is clearly on his decline now.

I mean it is a dick question, but isn't that what reporters are supposed to ask? Gives him a chance to respond to all the fans going off on him.
