I'm not discounting it, but a performance of that type is just not what I'm trying to locate here in terms of a movie I want to watch. There are far more of the "all time memorable great performance in a non-dominant role" throughout movie history, there are far fewer "Hi I'm the director I'm going to point a camera at you for the better part of 2 hours and the success or failure of this film as a piece of art will more or less depend entirely on what you do with this character" movies where someone knocks it out of the park.
EDIT: Your avatar just gave me a good idea to illustrate this: I think Ian McShane as Al Swearengen is arguably the best character ever put to screen on TV, but Deadwood is quintessentially a show driven by an ensemble cast - I'm looking more for a "Bryan Cranston as Walter White" type of performance, except in the film context.

Robert Redford in that movie where it's just him on a boat kind of fits the bill. I loved it.
Tom Hanks in Castaway I suppose too but I didn't much care for it.

Or hell...a giant Golden Retriever! Imagine the cinematic fun you could have with that!!

Well, it's an IP and those are the three animals in that game

Welp. In the annual tradition of checking out new to us Christmas movies, we checked out A Merry Little Ex-Mas last night with Alicia Silverstone, Oliver Hudson, and Jameela Jamil. And, also in annual tradiition of encountering more bombs than good movies, it was so bad. In fairness, it had a few good laughs, but overall it was cringe and awful.
The tradition shall continue!

Probably 90% of what my partner and I watch during December is Christmas movies. And my goodness, so many of them are so, so bad.
Glad to know this was a bad one (just to avoid building up any hope for otherwise, as we’ll still watch it lol).

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You is an insanely tense ride through motherhood. Its a great movie but you'll breath a sigh of relief at the end.

Lots of talk about Gary Oldman and his acting but he wrote and directed a film called Nil by Mouth that has a great performance by Ray Winstone. The film is dark, sad and unsettling but very good none the less.

If any of you dingleberries like films you can get a year subscription to the Criterion channel for $75 USD. BLACKFRIDAY25 is the code, it's really the only discount they do throughout the year.

1) There Will be Blood
2) Cool Hand Luke
3) Patton
There are others certainly but those 3 aren’t leading anyone wrong IMO.

I might have to give this one a go, starring Calgary puck legend/poster LA Flames Fan. That handsome devil.

the new ones seem to really suck, but if you want a really good christmas romance movie watch "A Castle for Christmas" with Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes from a couple of years ago. actually filmed in Scotland, too.
Another one to watch is from last year - "Hot Frosty" with Lacey Chabert and Schitt's Creek actor Dustin Milligan. Just stupid and funny is a really good way.

Of course I’ve seen and enjoyed them both! Hot Frosty was right on the edge for me, though it played into the ridiculousness of it just enough that it held together.
I cannot recommend Merry Gentlemen, however, to anyone who struggle to sit through a terrible Christmas movie. One of the absolute worst.

She probably earned more from one year of residuals of Clueless from 1 single network purchasing it than she has received in total from streamers since Clueless hit that market.
