Well, they needed to put out the fire asap after that debacle.

About time. Hopefully they listen to the fan base and their aggravations about that and choose to do the right and obvious thing.

The problem is, there are too many people who can’t see the forest for the trees. I think management was under the impression that fans enjoy watching a scrappy, untalented, low-event team that usually misses the playoffs and they had a reality check.. In every thread, you read that wanting a rebuild means you aren't a “real fan.”

That is nonsense. A real fan wants the Stanley Cup. A real fan wants a consistent contender for 10 years, not to strive to be some lucky Cinderella team. Can these people just put a sock in it and let us get a superstar player? Wishing to roll Yahtzee on another Gaudreau or a late-round star is a fool's gambit and statistically rare. I’m not getting any younger here.

Assuming we will hear from Conroy in light of this news either on FlamesTalk or the morning show?

This definitely helps provide a positive distraction after last week. I would have been surprised if this wasn't done.

This brings him up to 5 years, but I would have preferred a 5-year extension here. GMs take a long time to really put their fingerprints on a team, and I would have liked to see a vote of confidence in Conroy to make the moves he feels are necessary for the long term benefit of the team, as well as some stability here in Calgary. You always get worried when a GM's time is running down, and they suddenly start making 'job-saving moves' (not that I think Conroy would, but that's the nice thing about signing long-term).

Still, this almost 3 years now (including this one) to really push this franchise in one direction and make a lot of headway. Hopefully in 2 years from now, we will all be clamouring that Conroy should be extended again because things are looking so positive by then.

No no. Maloney will come out and say we don't talk about that stuff. Whilst munching on a bologna sandwich. With the crusts cut off.

Another example of ownership meddling, signing Conroy to an extension.

And those results better not be good over the next two years ... as I want great results for the ten years that follow.

Am I missing something here? Did NYR try to offer sheet Iggy at some point when playing?

Sure....but also getting a "potential" superstar (because until they've played...even the BEST pick may not be one) is also a matter of luck, development and a host of other factors. Nothing is guaranteed.

Always remember, that even with all their "superstar" picks, E=NG.

I hurt my Iginla extension falling on the ice one time. Now my wrist shot is completely gone.

It was a kerfuffle here on CP back in the day when Larry Brooks (RIP) wrote in his NY Post Sunday column that his beloved Rags should OS Iggy for 1 year at (iirc) 12M... so the Flames couldnt afford to match.

It was a less than half baked idea though that did not prevent many from going down that particular rabbit hole.

Default Flames, Conroy making progress on a contract extension

Sharky may have been a flash in the pan but Bahl looks to be the real gem of that deal. Bahl + Reschny is still great value for Markstrom. Let the man cook.

Don’t know how to properly post a tweet but Darren Haynes might want to hang up his Flames observation hat for a bit. This tweet from yesterday looks more out of touch today than it did yesterday.

In true Murray Edwards fashion its not a new contract, they just made the old contract longer. It is, technically, still a 'Contract Extension.'

How f-ing stupid is the management of this "franchise" that they would think the fanbase would be upset at Conroy being extended with the tank start to the season?

Like "oh no! The team is losing! The fanbase must HATE Conroy!"

Patronizing. Dismissive. Arrogant.

And totally unearned given their 35 years of utter failure.

Give Conroy full team control YESTERDAY since none of you have the slightest idea what you are doing. He couldn't possibly be worse than you morons.

Should have given Connie a 5 year extension. 2 years extension might cause him to speed up the rebuild.
