With the new changes to the CBA, is it the team that owns his rights before July 1st that can extend him up to 8? After that, it's max 7?
Then July '27, its 7 & 6?

I believe it changes next year on September 16. So, anyone whose contract expires in 2027 can sign an 8-year extension from July 1 to September 15, 2026, but would be limited to 7 years after that.

Andersson is playing great on a crap team. If has traded a contending team better be willing to pony up. And he's still a guy I would think mind signing again. He's the type of player that you keep through a rebuild if he wants to be here IMO

Frank mentioned to Pat yesterday that Andersson’s trade value is as high as it has been in the last 12 months or so. Looks like the right call to hold onto him so far

Too bad we can't re-sign him and then loan him to another team for the next 2 seasons.
He is everything a player should be for the Calgary Flames, but he also deserves to be playing meaningful hockey.

My hope for Andersson is still the Hampus Lindholm deal.
It's the bench mark for defenceman trades in recent years.
To BOS: H. Lindholm (50% retained), Kodie Curran
To ANA: Urho Vaakanainen, John Moore, 2022 1st round pick, 2023 2nd round pick, 2024 2nd round pick
H. Lindholm was 28 at the time of the trade and had 22 points in 61 games.
That's the upper-end of deals made in the last half decade. Is it reasonable? I'm not so sure we can pull that much value, but it's the ceiling.

Boston put extra value on the name Lindholm.

Here's how that ended up (from Hockey DB);
- 2022-Mar-19 Vaakanainen Traded from Boston Bruins with John Moore, round 1 pick in the 2022 draft (Nathan Gaucher), round 2 pick in the 2023 draft (Damian Clara) and round 2 pick in the 2024 draft (Linus Eriksson) to Anaheim Ducks for Hampus Lindholm and Kodie Curran
- 2024-Dec-06 Vaakanainen Traded from Anaheim Ducks with conditional round 4 pick in the 2025 draft (Elijah Neuenschwander) to New York Rangers for Jacob Trouba
Kinda just ended up Lindholm for Trouba

That’s more than the Flames paid for a signed Hamilton and Hamonic with years left on his deal. Less than the Sens paid for a year and a half of Chychurn.
Pretty high bar not sure we will get there

Plus it just didn't work out that well for Boston.

Glad Andersson is getting some love in this topic.
He's been a great Flame on and off the ice for his tenure here. He'll be missed.
Maybe those that said his value is slipping away from last deadline and the summer are taking pause?

For anyone worried about 'winning too much', I do expect the team to completely implode once he gets traded. It will remove the wind from the sails of this team, and they will have more trouble defending and transitioning as well. I think the team will be gutted, actually. Those sparkling defensive metrics will take a big hit when the Flames are asking both Weegar and Bahl to 'carry' their partners on their pairings. That's how I see it, anyway.

Weegar has been rough and was -19 recently. Seems to make one bad gaffe per game.

I am to an extent, his good play this year has to be a plus especially if he gets traded as a rental. I still have my doubts that the return will be better than similar players at last years deadline because of a strong market of buyers last year as well as an extra year of term left on Anderssons contract.
If it’s a weak return on Ras this year it won’t be because of his play.

What Andersson has been able to do the last 15 games is fantastic. It is statistically very, very improbable, but he did do it and I think it's amazing. It will greatly help us in acquiring good value for him. I hope we do that.

What similar players? Everyone traded at the last TDL was a tier below Andersson IMO.

And trust me I'm not saying his value is greater now. I have no idea.
But there were quite a few that stated his value was diminishing daily (can't remember the exact words) without knowledge either.
Hopefully it works out great from an asset management standpoint.

What was improbable was his previous season, although it was likely a result of playing injured. He's just in his prime now. The concern is more that on the 8 year contract he's asking for, his play will start to decline midway through that contract, not at the beginning of it.
