This is Europe's fault.

It's the creation of the Nations League and making it matter. CONCACAF has a nations league but doesn't factor into World Cup qualifying.

You should be able to get to 48 in time for the December draw. Maybe the inter-continental tournament must finish later because of the logistics, but Europe should have been finished by now.

I guess if I was an American or Canadian of Italian descent and I wanted to try and plan trips to fanzones and/or matches, it is super frustrating you have to wait all the way till March. Especially because two separate ticket sales phases have already happened.

I'm lucky and snagged some Vancouver matches. My hope is Croatia gets drawn with Canada again and I kill two birds.

I agree that it's UEFAs fault - 16 teams should be easy peasy. Like the old days of the 16 team Euro. Top two teams from every group qualify.

In hindsight it was obvious they would change the rules to make sure he doesn't miss a World Cup game. I'm fully expecting this to be the most corrupt WC in history, 95% chance the final will be US vs. Argentina/Portugal.

Quote:
Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo can play in the first game of the 2026 World Cup after FIFA's Disciplinary Committee issued him a one-match ban -- which he has already served -- for the red card he received in his country's 2-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland on Nov. 13.

The superstar had been expected to be banned for at least one more game and start what will be his record sixth World Cup on the sideline.

FIFA published a disciplinary verdict Tuesday that imposed a three-game ban, yet with two of those games deferred for a one-year probation period.

FIFA issued Ronaldo a further two-match ban, which he will not serve provided he does not commit another disciplinary incident.

Yep. Russia, Qatar & Saudi are World Cups to whitewash the regime.

The US World Cup is to absolutely gouge the fan, and they know that Americans are sheep when it comes to star power like Messi & Ronaldo.

At least Trump gets his Peace Prize.

Its a shame Venezuela didnt qualify, it would have been something to see Infantino hand Drumpf the Peace Prize at a Venezuelan match right after the US invades them.

World Cup Pots confirmed. Let's start the simulations.

Also interesting there there are pathways. Spain, Argentina, France and England cannot meet until the semis if they win their groups.

That means if France is drawn in one of group C,J,K,L England will be in E,F,G,H,I and similarly for Spain and Argentina.

As always Inter-Confederation playoff winners cant be in groups with confederations they beat or their own confederation. So an IC playoff winner is definitely not ending up in groups A,B,D because theres a concacaf team in both pathways.

Therefore Mexico, Canada and US have a 4 out 10 chance to get a Pot 4 European, unless they have already drawn 2 Europeans in Pot 2 and 3.

Also the order of matches has been predetermined instead of drawn.

Canada will open in Toronto against a Pot 4 team (cough, Italy)

Never a question whether he would play.

As for the pots adjustment, yeah certainly I think the CSA (and its backers) have pumped enough cash to get Italy on home soil. I don’t think there has ever been a friendly with them, far too expensive for the CSA even if they pass the hat around to MLS and Joey Saputo.

I think it is a 4 out of 8 chance to get a European team in Pot 4 because Haiti and Curaçao are also Concacaf.

There is a significantly less than 4 in 8 chance. Only two UEFA members can be drawn into one group, and there are 3 UEFA teams in Pot 2, and 2 in Pot 3.

Each sim I run you get 1 group of death, then 11 groups that will deliver the most boring group stage of any WC.

I had Canada win their group 3-0-0 (with South Korea, Norway and Congo) and then lose 5-0 to Uruguay in the round of 32. Sounded about right haha.

Just got tickets to the game on June 21st at BC Place! Basically 1k all in for two category 3 seats. Pot 1 vs pot 2 (no Canada). I'd rather catch a non Canada game, as any of France, Argentina, Spain, Germany, England, Brazil, or Portugal would be at the top of my list to see.

how do you know it's Pot 1 vs Pot 2 and not Pot 3 vs Pot 4? Does it say?
It just says Match 40

I saw this on The Athletic...

I did countless simulations on that World Cup simulator and it was always Pot 1 vs. Pot 2. Hopefully it's accurate!
