Kadri was picked 7th overall. You don't have to tank to get there.

Very good interview with Jamie McLennan on Barn Burner today. He was trying to calm down the fan base after the Maloney interview.
Made a good point that regardless of the words, the Flames haven't actually made any moves to try to be competitive. Said it is all PR talk and he would not be surprised if they trade some vets even well before the deadline. He said any words about being competitive are just words for their season ticket holders who might not want to hear the word rebuild.
Also said if Conroy was available he would have many calls from teams ready to hire him immediately, so would be shocked if he was not re signed.
Finally, said he isn't worried about the Flames not officially making players available. Said regardless of what other teams announce; Andersson, Kadri, and Coleman are still very valuable compared to what is available elsewhere.

Considering elite first line centers are practically a necessity to win a cup, it's probably not smart to settle for good second line centers like Kadri.
Nearly all of the of the elite first line centers were picked top 2.
I almost wonder if the lack of super elite center is the reason that Dallas and Carolina have troubles making it to the finals.

did it work to calm you down? hearing him say what so many posters have said to you already?
i'm not trying to pick a fight, i'm just tired of this topic being beaten to death.

lol, fair enough.
edit to add: although i am happy when the Flames win, i would be more than okay for a top 5 pick this year.

You won't be laughing when we give up three firsts to acquire Boeser, O'Reilly and Stamkos.

With this teams track record beyond the last two years i think most fans have every justification for the reaction because it follows what this team has done forever. Give up the future for crumbs now.

Few tidbits from nhltraderumors:
-Pierre Lebrun says that Trotz' price for teams to aquire Ryan O'Reilly will likely include a first-round pick, and an "A" prospect.
-Predators have been heavily scouting the Habs, who may have interest in O'Reilly, as well as Stamkos.
-According to Seravalli, the Flyers, Flames, Canucks, and Habs are all in the running for Brad Lambert.
-Seravalli also says that D Owen Power needs a change of scenery, saying that he's the "poster child" for what's going wrong in Buffalo- players who are languishing without seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
-Rob Couch says there are 3 centers on the Habs' radar: O'Reilly, Schenn, and of course- Kadri.
-David Pagnotta says that been active in searching for impact, scoring wingers for their top-six, with names like Tuch, Jenner, and of course- Kadri coming up. They may also be in on Lambert and Nick Robertson.
-Jeremy Tingly lists 5 Canucks to watch on the trade front: Evander Kane, Jake Debrusk, Kiefer Sherwood, Lukas Reichel, and Quinn Hughes- who he speculates will go to NJ in exchange for a package that will include D Simon Nemec, and C Dawson Mercer.
-James Wilson speculates that Blake Coleman is a player that the Habs might be looking to add.
-Couch says that two teams who may be interested in Stamkos are the Ducks, and Panthers.

Only a couple of GMs did that. They are both gone. Why does Conroy get saddled with what Sutter did?

Steinberg show in the last two days has had a calming effect as well.
Saying the team is aware of the chatter.
Saying the team is in discussions behind closed doors.
Murray hearing it.
But also that they just don't want ticket sales to fall off a cliff, and there's concern in that.
Feels Conroy getting re-upped is more than likely.
(all of that paraphrased)
For me anyway, seemed to fall in with what many of us have been saying ... more PR and less actual direction.

I don't think they need to PR spin anything. I think fans would appreciate honesty more than a PR spin. Having a strong long term plan and sticking to it is far more reassuring.

Kadri is the best of the three right now, but the gap between him and motivated stamkos is nill or reversed, and O'Reilly has more chops as a 3rd line C if they want more defensive/possession game. Schenn somewhere below the other 3.
It is unfortunate that more options to compete with Kadri's value have emerged.

If you want to believe it's "PR" then fine, but they should fire whoever is responsible for managing club PR then because they are hopelessly lost and failing at their job.
