It might creep into the season but if the market doesn't emerge that's not on the team.
You can't give assets away.

And I'm not sure why any team would be a buyer at this point in the season. Teams are still figuring things out internally. Detroit might be a good landling sport for Kadri. But they likley don't know if they are making a push this year yet. Ditto Utah.

Lindholm’s deal wasn’t a deadline deal and we still got great value.
We’re all talking hypotheticals. If Andersson goes tomorrow, then it’s “Conroy got his price” and it’s a closed topic.
|
If Ras goes for anythung less than a 1st and decent prospect that would not be the case at all. Lindhom was traded Jan 31 so still much closer to the deadline.

I agree you don't just give assets away. But my counter point would mainly be how do we know what the offers are if we haven't made anyone besides Andersson available yet. Friedman also said the Flames have not been shopping Kadri or Coleman.
So why would a team make an offer if the Flames don't want to trade them? I think the moment you say Kadri is available it becomes a bidding war. Maybe you get better offers now or at the deadline, who knows.

I think shopping and listening to offers are different things. Lebrun said there were talks between Montreal and Calgary.

Nothing is stopping teams from calling and asking anyway even if they aren't being actively shopped. Treliving would call teams all the time to check on a player's availability because you never know.
Regardless of Mahloney's interview everyone knows the situation the Flames are in and if given the right offer would consider trading their veterans who won't be around when the team is ready to compete.

TSN just showed Conroy watching the top prospects game - looks like he is in good spirits, as always

Disco Don having some holiday drinks and causing a ruckus on CP is hilarious. Doubling down for the second interview is classic. I see you, Disco, I see you.

I have said before but for example if someone offers you a 1st and 2nd for Kadri now, and a 1st and 2nd and 3rd at the deadline for example. Let's just say those are the hypothetical offers. Is it worth waiting and gaining a 3rd round pick if the difference is trading him now and finishing 31st, or trading him at the deadline and finishing 24th for example.
|
If the offer today is a 2nd round pick and the offer at the deadline is your 1st and 2nd, do you wait?

I like Kadri but he’s not getting the team 7 places in the standings all by himself. Reminder - the team is in last (points percentage) with the guys they have now. Who are playing all well.

I would wait yeah. It really depends what the offer was, I guess no point guessing when I have no idea.

Fair enough. But I think Nashville is better than their record, unless they sell off as is rumoured. But really, it’s their vets that are underperforming that got them there. If Marchessault picks it up and if Saros finds his groove, they will rise.

Such a weird team. Practically an all-star lineup, but no one on the same page as anyone else. I had them as a top-tier favourite when they landed Stamkos (which I'm sure most everyone else did as well).

I figured Stamkos was going to decline. TB saw it coming.

Tampa Bay is sometimes ruthless but they see where things are going and don’t monkey around. These guys are paid a killing to absorb their tears that the general population can’t. Cutting him loose looked bad at the time but was the right thing to do. Others should take note.

Recall, Stamkos shopped the Lightning too, leveraging the Leafs offers.
