Holloway isn't bad. Macleod is kinda useful.

Holloway is still a 14rh overall pick. For a team that picked top 10 eleven times in thirteen seasons they didn’t really hit on much.

The Oilers made their first of those picks in 07 with Ganger.

Just off the top of my head here are decent to very good NHLers the Flames drafted outside the first round

Brodie, Gaudreau, Kulak, Andersson, Mangiapane, Fox, Wolf. That doesn’t mention Bouma, Kylington, Dube, , Pospisil, Broissiot. I am sure the Oilers had a few that had cups of coffee like those guys.

The flames drafting gives me hope they will avoid an Edmonton/Buffalo style rebuild if they do lean into some down years to get high picks. They already have some core guys on the team now they just need some stars up front.

It was a bit of sarcasm. Even when they pick a guy who can play, they drum him out of town.

Neither of those players would reach full potential with the Oilers. They have zero development. Paul Coffey was actually doing a good job developing players, so they shipped him out of town.

I think at ton of the issues in Edmonton is development over drafting.

Young players who aren't projected to be stars get rushed up to the NHL only to sit on the bench and watch. Opportunity to play in the NHL often isn't there but for some reason the Oilers won't let young players excel in the AHL. Cap often plays a part in this due to poor cap management.

A large part of the problems with Puljujarvi and maybe Yakupov was their lack of awareness that a 19 year old kid with little English might be lost and need some extra help in a place like Edmonton.

Although, one might argue that a place with the vocabulary level of neanderthals would be a good place to start learning a new language.

Their whole system can be explained in charades.
(Have puck)
(Find McDavid)
(Pass puck to McDavid)
(Go to bench)

Yeah they got a couple that got away, but their historical draft hockeydb page is very print friendly. You have to go back to 2013 to get to 1000 games played for players drafted outside the 1st round. Most were swings and a miss.

Would be interesting to see a ranking of which teams had the most drafted players play somewhere in the league and the most man games in the league out of their drafted players over say a time span since 2000 when Columbus joined the league.

Just saw an article from GreasePigTown's propaganda machine that Binnington is being linked to the Oilers? And the oilers would be looking at a defenseman as well? With what money and what does PigTown have to offer? This article thought Kulak and Skinner would be part of return. Ha-ha-ha!!
The media up there are like kids that discovered trading mode on the early versions of EA Sports NHL.... "hey let's trade Mario Lemieux to my team in exchange for Trent Klatt!".

That would be a very interesting exercise. It would really help indicate that your scouting staff could at least correctly identify players.

Playing for Omsk. 3 points in 7 games. He is 32 now, feels like just yesterday he was sliding around on his stomach scoring that epic October regular season goal.

Almost like clockwork at various points in the season the Oilers get significant days off it seems relatively to other teams. One game in basically a week seems like a lot of time off.

NHL schedulers pull out all the stops helping this team, still can’t get them over the top.

No way Binnington doesn't have NMC in his current contract with the Blues, and no way he'll waive it to go to Edmonton.

According to Puckpedia, Binnington does not have an NMC. He had an NTC for the first years of his deal, which changed to a modified NTC last season. At present he has a 14-team no-trade list… which I am sure Edmonton is on, so your point is still valid.

14 team NT list.

If the Blues ate 50% he's only a $3M hit. Presumably they'd remove Skinner somehow.

Why would the Blues eat half of Binnington's salary just to do a favour for Edmonton? It's not like Edmonton has a lot of tempting assets that St. Louis would be hot to acquire.
