I'm assuming we all would. Why would Vancouver?

No reason other than to dump the cap but when David Kampf is playing as your 2C I think they need to keep EP

I don't think he's moving either, however I'm answering the earlier question of would you do Yegor, Zary, and the Vegas 1st for EP40 and I'd seriously consider that. (I do like Zary and think there is more to unlock.)

Probably unpopular but I think Zary has been tapped and was unfortunately a flash in the pan. Sure, if he didn’t sustain 2 knee injuries in the same year his trajectory may look better. All I see when I see him is a 3rd line winger - which we have more then enough of in the system and makes him expendable.

I know EP40 does have a no move clause, and would probably never waive to come to CGY. But fun to pose the hypothetical.

Is that out of line for a 27 year old hypothetically first line center who's around a PPG? You also clear out Yegor's contract in that scenario. Cap ain't going down anytime soon.

Pettersson has 20 points in 23 games, and been scoring quite a bit lately after a very poor start. 12 points in 10 games. It's extremely unlikely he gets moved.
It would be a dream scenario to get him for a cap dump, Zary and the Vegas first.

I'd take Petterson for sure. Full cap and all. Would not give up any draft capital. That's a massive cap swing between the two teams. A prospect and a player and I'd be okay if it was Zary for something like Petterson.

I think the crux is that some fans would like to accelerate the teams approach and take actions that get you more young players and more at the top of the draft. It’s really as simple as that.
|
Exactly. There are two questions worth addressing for anyone who’s still interested in discussing the issue in good faith.
A) Do you think the Flames ownership and management are pursuing a strategy of deliberately tanking in an effort to draft top-5 this season and at least one more season going forward?
B) How do you feel about the Flames pursuing or not pursuing that strategy?

That's a lot of faith to put into a 10 game sample size.
Elias Petterson has scored 28 goals, and 85 points in 120 games since signing his 93M dollar contract. That paces him for 19 goals, and 58 points over 82 games @ at 11.6M dollar caphit.
His shot volume has dwindled from 3.2 per game during his career year down to 1.7 since his contract extension and his skating hasn't been anywhere near as dynamic since his knee injury. That's not a contract I want this organization risking attaching itself too long term with Huberdeau already here.

I disagree completely. That trade would certainly cement this team in the mushy middle for the foreseeable future. He probably gets the flames to battle for 9th every year like he does with Vancouver.
The Canucks have a near generational Dman and they have made playoffs twice with the Pettersson/Hughes combo. Pettersson is not a winner

I think EP is bad for a locker room. When JT Miller was traded there was rumours that many ‘Nucks players thought the wrong guy got moved. You have to be a massive d-bag to have anybody prefer Miller over you, IMO. Plus, the way Pettersen acts in interviews really rubs me the wrong way-I think he’s an entitled person who thinks he can do whatever he wants. Just my opinion.

I want nothing to do with Pettersson on the flames. With a NMC it is not like the flames could pump and dump him.
We would have a Huby/Pety combo eating up $22M in cap for 6 more years

The only way to success for the Flames is through the draft, full-stop.

I don't mean to speculate on whether Pettersson is or is not a "bad guy in the room" but despite the love many in the market and on the team had for JT, and the difference maker he has often been when he's on and in a good situation, he is clearly a horrible dude to be around when things are sliding - he checks out on plays hard and viscerally blames others around him without necessarily showing accountability in his own work.
Probably a case of both dudes being tough personalities in certain situations.
