But Lebrun said they have and have had multiple conversations with the Habs about Kadri. Who to believe I guess eh.

Cause the other 31 team's GMs sit around waiting for those two guys to let them know who's available to be acquired? Come on man.

It comes down to whether you think Conory not phoning around is (a) a direction from ownership or (b) just his negotiating style. I don't really know, but his past trades seem to show he likes to play hardball. To the point he sometimes sees the trade disappear (the first potential Markstrom deal).
If he's being asked to have a player waive, he probably figures it better be a good offer before he does that.

I am old enough to remember when Conroy was a moron for not allegedly taking Holtz and a 1st round pick (if that was the offer). Now Holtz is playing in Vegas, still not scoring and the Flames have Bahl, an actual NHL player and the first round pick.

When were people calling Conroy a moron? Seems like you are trying to spin a narrative. Some people wanted Holtz due to the draft pedigree but I can’t remember this fanbase ever attacking Conroy the way you are implying.

He's a hard to find type. Great wingspan, which is important in a shutdown guy. Between him and Kuznestov I think "defensive defenceman" is a future strength of Calgary. If Parekh and Bruz turn into good offensive guys, that all bodes well.

Dunno about "moron" but there were certainly people thinking he'd screwed the pooch on the trade and that he'd lost the value available for Markstrom.

I wouldn't mind the Flames looking at another D man with their Vegas pick, knowing it'll take 4 - 5 years to develop them.

maybe the word moron was not used, but many people thought he somehow missed an opportunity. But you are right, it was not moron it was the standard argument about how the ownership is meddling, the Flames are going to Flame and not trade their assets, that sort of thing. Small sampling below.

A 1st is another asset we need.
Markstrom does nothing for us, and will most likely be gone when we are competing again.
He says it himself. Goalies have a market and it’s not trading a 2C who is 22 for one.

- standard opinion that the Flames were trying to compete and that is why they don't trade vets

So applauding Conroy for standing firm and not acquiring a level of quality assets that he will never ever get offered again for Markstrom? Not sure I share the same thought. Something bigger happened here and I think even Conroy is likely pissed off.
These types of situations are why the Flames will never be a true contender.
|
- standard stuff, not trading the vet right now for whatever the return would be is why we can never content. bonus for the speculation of owner meddling.

not Conroy moron material, but standard deep state stuff about ownership that somehow disappeared a couple months later when Markstrom was traded.

Based on Markstrom’s and Dreger’s recent comments balance of probability leans pretty heavily to option 2.

more ownership speculation from quality source Dreger that somehow changed 3 months later.

Would you take a swing on ep40 if you had to give up Vegas first, zary and another player?

Suppose it depends on the other player part.

I still think I’d rather leave it in the hands of our scouts to get value out of that Vegas pick. Pettersson looks awful and has for 2 years now

I am not sure I would trade Huby for Pettersson right now let alone give up good assets.

Tough to get theoretically top end centers. I'm also assuming the Vegas pick is 20ish which I have no problem using. Certainly is a risk/reward situation.

Some Canucks guy yelling on Kyper and Bourne says Boeser and Pettersson are not moving.
