I would agree if it wasn't for this interview. Maloney really made it sound like either the Flames are not happy with the moves Conroy made, or Conroy is not on the same page as ownership.
Because he sure didn't give him a vote of confidence like he did for Huska. It was weird.

That's exactly my concern as well! That's why I said I'm trying to manifest that scenario, because I want Maloney as far away from this org as possible. He's one of Treliving's guys too, we need to to rid ourselves of that BP scented stench.

Hmm. Guy is being paid to do the job of General Manager, with the title General Manager. Interview references "...a collective group here with Dave Nonis, Craig, myself, Brad Pascall, Peter Hanlon and we discuss how we move forward". When the topic of Andersson arises, "That falls under Craig's area, but we're constantly talking about it."
This isn't really Game of Thrones level of intrigue here. Conroy should absolutely be extended as GM - the sooner the better. But he's also GM until it's announced otherwise.

Likely exactly what the Flames accomplished under him. Nothing. Such is life cheering for a team with a terrible owner.

I watched a segment of Boomer and the boys and there was an analogy of someone not maintaining their house in order to save money…shingles curling, etc…..and who would do that? Apparently they don’t know how Edwards runs his businesses.

Is any fan here that was genuinely heated by what Maloney willing to do something about it at the cost of a few hundred each?
I'd bet all it'd take for the "social fans" to "get noticed" at a Flames game is for only about 20-50 of us to commit to buying tickets to whatever specific game and coming up with a harmful plan that gets the message of the genuine diehard fanbase "noticed", including throwing custom Maloney & Murray jerseys on the ice while doing something to show support for Conroy & a rebuild path.
Even if it took 2-3 home games spread a week+ apart, it'd definitely spark massive conversation amongst Flames management and media.

The worst thing is, whether he’s right or wrong about the team being better than it is, it is not a team of the future. It’s full of soon to be declining assets but they have a golden opportunity to turn those assets into picks AND a higher draft pick. The strategy should be so obvious.

Agreed. Its so disjointed its hard to comprehend. It wasnt we need to get more skilled. We need to get younger, we need to increase our defensive depth, and it want find a top line center and increase our depth at our weakest position, it wasnt we need to build through the draft ( even though we have been) nope. What we need is more 35+ centers and gosh wouldnt it be noice if we had some of the old guys that arent here anymore and whst the team really needs is another retirement contract for Andersson?
Its the message that scares me and it can only be a couple if things.
Conroy is doing this on his own and Maloney is basically oblivious other than he seems to be loosing personal friends off the team.
Deflection for the media? He backs what CC is doing and this was public theatre.
Management has made an internal beef public they want to make the playoffs but doesnt include not spending any money on the team and isnt really backed by the teams moves? So is CC going rogue?
I know nothing except it stinks like yesterday’s diapers.

It does make you wonder if Maloney is able to have a sober and unbiased view about what Treliving left and the reality that Conroy had to deal with. If he was Brad's guy and vice versa, he probably had his part to play in that whole mess.

Francis: Time is now for Flames to extend GM Craig Conroy
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-craig-conroy/
Quote:
TAMPA – Never mind salvaging the season, the Calgary Flames need to safeguard their future.
And that starts with signing Craig Conroy to a contract extension.
Immediately.
It should have happened months ago, as it’s beyond insulting for him to have been operating this season as a rare, lame-duck GM whose contract runs out next summer.
That is, of course, unless an extension has already been quietly agreed to.
That’s certainly a possibility, as ownership is well aware of how well the popular spokesman for the club has navigated through choppy waters over the last two-plus years.
The club may simply be waiting to find the right time to make it public, which has been tricky due to the optics of announcing that the man in charge of the league’s 31st-ranked squad is being extended.
|
Quote:
If it hasn’t already been signed, you can bet it will be.
Given the noise, frustration, uncertainty and importance of charting the right course, there’s no better man for the job.
And there’s no better time than now to make it public.

I'm not usually a fan of Eric Francis, but he's been fantastic over the last week. 100% agree with him on the Conroy front.

Why would Francis feel the need to address this, if there is legit nothing going on with the Conroy thing?

Because fans are buzzing about it. Even his conclusion is that it’s already signed or it will be.

Man after all this dies down and the Flames inevitably extend Craig, heads should roll in their PR and comms department. What a brutal series of unforced errors.

Francis with a surprisingly decent take . He's usually about about the hutzpah and counter points and clickbait but that's a well rounded response to the bologna of this past week.

No, I don't think a Jersey toss is warranted right now. A few hundred fire Maloney signs in the stands would suffice though.

Do you think throwing bologna slices on the ice would send the message?

Jersey toss because of a bad interview lol
We want players to want to play here no?
If the Flames trade the Vegas pick for a rental toss away...they have made zero win now moves in nearly 3 years.

His job is based on getting clicks, he even got a shoutout for it by Elliotte on hockey night for splitting the Maloney interview was a two parter. Probably wrote it because lots of people would read it and those are metrics that every media outlet shares with their journalists.
