Both can be true and both are likely. The deeper context to lindholms statement was that he'd sign for what he wanted, not what they offered.

I don't even know what point you're arguing anymore. The Flames made him realistic offers (plural) to stay, he countered with an unrealistic offer and didn't budge, so they traded him.

"That car's worth 40k, I'll offer you 40k for it."
"Nah, I don't really want you to have it, so I'll offer it to you for 60k."
"Hmm... I really want the car, so I can move up to 50k but that's all I've got."
"Still don't want you to have it. Still offering 60k."
"Alright, I guess I'll move on then."

"....oh, but I made him an offer he could have signed!"
But your example makes no sense because Dino said Lindholm made them an offer they could have signed. The person making the offer that could have been signed in the Lindholm scenario was the person offering 60K, not the one that moved up. You should read what you quoted again to see who allegedly made the offer that the Flames could have signed.

The guy saying he made an offer they could have signed in my example is the guy wanting 60k. I thought that would be obvious.

Lindholm ended up signing for a 7.75 aav over 7 years. If at any point the flames offered him more than that and he declined it, then it can be argued that he saved us by not signing what would have been a better deal than he got, as it indicates that we would hold a contract with negative value at least to the delta of the 7.75 aav.

I suspect we offered him much more than 7.75/year, and definitely had an 8th year. I don't see how this is difficult to accept as us lucking in to him not accepting our offer.

He saved them by rejecting the initial offer that ended up being more than what he signed for in Boston but they saved themselves by not caving to his counteroffer. Just like what it sounds like they're doing with Andersson.

Do you guys write these Lindholm arguments from scratch every time or do you have them saved somewhere and then just repaste them?

Its already been settled but then you get someone trying to re-write history to fit the narrative

Again, there was a single offer. Not multiple offers. Confirmed by Lindholm. And I wasn't posting evidence of Lindholm wanting to stay, I was proving that Lindholm didnt save the Flames from themselves, the Flames moved on. Lindholm says so himself.

That's probably a fair analysis of it. He saved us initially but we also didn't cave to his demands.

Either way, I am forever grateful for Lindholm, especially after the return we got in the trade.

At the end of the day do things that didn't happen matter anyway? "GM of the century" Bill Zito tried to PAY to move retained Bobrovsky but couldn't find any takers like 3 years ago. That probably changes history a little bit.

Fact is in case after case the Flames stood their ground and sacraficed the now rather than do something to hurt the future. Like there are nearly double digit examples of it since Conroy took over.

Also there is some context being totally ignored
Lindholm was coming off 82 and 64 point seasons with the Flames when they made their offer.
He was coming off a 44 point season when he signed with Boston.

Only way out of this PR blunder is to fire Maloney and let Craig cook. That's what I'm trying to manifest at least..

I feel bad if Conroy is getting slack from Edwards and Maloney. This team is still reeling and recovering from the mistakes the previous GM made. It was always going to get worse before getting better and Craig deserves a few more years to see if his vision is going to work. We essentially lost our full 1st line under the previous GM. Replacing a 1st line doesn't happen easily as you usually have to draft those kinds of players.

I honestly wasn't worried about it before and just assumed that the paperwork would get done, but all the talk and attention it's getting is wearing on me, like maybe I should be more worried about it. Like they mentioned though, nobody is talking about Verbeek so this is possibly just something fans from a hockey mad market blow out of proportion.

But is Conroy even the GM at this point? That's my concern after the Maloney interview.

Agreed. I'm not particularly 'comfortable' with the combination of Conroy not being extended and being oddly absent while Maloney is suddenly more present than normal.

Conroy gave no interviews between beginning of October and December 23rd of last year as well. Guy might just not give interviews in October, November and most of December because he is general managing.
