He was drafted 5th and then was the 1C at the WJC.
He then was injured in everyone of his first three pro years.
Finally healthy and has been a fixture on the fourth line since.
No one knows what he is, but the pedigree is there and he is only 24.
I actually like Lapierre better.
AHL playoff MVP in 23-24 with 23 points in 20 games.
PPG player the next year in the AHL.
Two years since as a fourth line player, when he can get in.
All sorts of character and skill, and definitely getting Bennetted.
23 years old.
I'm sure there's another Bennett or two out there I'm not thinking of. I guess the point is, if we create a hole at centre for a couple of years, until Reshny and Potter are up, why not take a chance on a buried player?

Agree with the logic, just don’t think it is Turcotte. If the price was low enough I would maybe take a chance.

Andrei svechnikov back in the news via Friedman.
He's demoted to the fourth line and told management that he wouldn't oppose a trade. Power forward game, a hard type to develop.

Acquiring him would make me feel better about the michigan goal he scored against us.

He smacked Big Save Dave in the mask with his stick. Should've been a 2 minute penalty not a goal

No good offers for any flames players at this time. Nothing worth tearing it down right now. Friedman just reiterating the timing of the Maloney interview was poor.

Friedman also saying no veterans have asked out. Talks about the team playing hard and competing. Some decent prospects etc.
Basically way too early to see where the Flames are going.
Free agents will be tough to get until the new rink.
“With Wolf they don’t think they can be truly bad”
“The beginning of this year was just a blip”
Also reiterating that he would be very surprised if Conroy is not extended

People want moves done NOW, but we’re also not even that far into the season. The soonest you’re going to get a deal done is either pre or post-Olympics.

In a couple weeks the Xmas trade freeze is on anyway. Might as well wait un til after instead of screwing a player for Xmas by getting it in before the freeze, unless the offer is fantastic.

Foolish of the fans to have any hope. Can’t get angry at Buffalo West for simply being Buffalo West, no more than you can be angry at a rock for being a rock.
They are at what they are.

I never thought I would be a fan who cheers for losses but I feel like it is necessary to get this team to a point where they focus on getting value for their assets.
I would say the way they were talking on the 32 thoughts podcast they are not even ruling out and Andersson extension (but he do say both sides are really far apart so I still think he is dealt).
Hanifin and the team had a verbal agreement that was wiped away after the team went on that losing streak. Feels like we need the same thing to happen this year

Yet here you are, all mad and sarcastic.
BTW, Buffalo is an example of a team that actually tanked. Not one that won in spite of itself.

I would be pretty interested in a Svech-Rasmus based swap.

The Calgary Flames and Buffalo Sabres have had basically the same amount of success in the last 2 decades.
It is weird we always hear about us not wanting to be Buffalo, when we already basically have been.

Not using the opportunity to capitalize on aging veterans who won't be able to contribute to a contending team here in Calgary is ridiculously short sighted. I really like Kadri, Coleman, and Ras, but if management can't see that these players need to be moved to acquire high-end talent and higher picks to ultimately turn this team into a true contender than its really a joke. Clearly indicates that winning is not the clear goal.
The Flames have to get passed bringing in middle six level talent and expecting to be a contender. We have had only a couple of true elite level players in this organization (Iginla, Tkachuk, Gaudreau) and outside of Gaudreau who is truly an outlier that is extremely rare where he was selected, those players were acquire with high picks or by dealing higher end player to acquire. Pretty straightforward equation to success.

They've approached their teams entirely differently. Buffalo did what you want the Flames to do. 4 top 2 picks in the last decade or so (including 2 1OAs and two lottery losses to move from 1OA to 2OA). 10 top 10 picks in the last 12 years.

Yeah and if they weren't grossly mismanaged they would have been good.
Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart went on to be key pieces in leading other teams to win some cups. That is completely on Buffalo for trading them, but they had a franchise center and winger and screwed it up.

I think there are a few deals that could really shift this organization.
To MTL
Kadri
3rd
To CGY
Hage
Anderson
To DAL
Coleman (50% retained)
Hanley
To CGY
Bischel
To ANA
Andersson
To CGY
Mintyukov
2027 2nd
This sets up the defensive core long term Parehk, Bischel, Bahl, Mintyukov, Kuznetsov, Brz, Weegar. Also gives Calgary a young top prospect center and an opportunity to draft another in this years draft.
These are the things that need to be done to move the team forward.

They had to trade them. They were vets on a bad team.
