I was the belligerent one in the Jagr jersey, Interacted with many fine flames fans. Hopefully some from here,

Give your heads a shake boys and girls - beating Vancouver is always a good thing. There is only one thing better in this world, and that's beating Edmonton.
Embrace these wins! This is going to be a long season of losing. You will not lose every game. There will be some win streaks. Enjoy them. Wins like this is like popping a pain killer. Enjoy life today!
I don't think anyone played poorly again. That's two games in a row. Vancouver looks bad! Hughes must be counting down the days until he leaves. I love the fact that they are at the bottom of the standings too. That's the price you get for not only taking Kane on, but also doing the Oilers a favour there!

He sure looked like it in his interview. That's the type of look you expect to see after being eliminated, not two months into the season.

No mercy for the Canucks under any circumstances. We can get back to the rebuild later this week (maybe after we beat the Lightning also).

Meh.
With the won streak we're currently on pace for a 64-70 point finish (the latter assuming the first 10 games of the season were anomalous).
Historically that's 4th to 5th from the bottom, which means we'd be unlikely to get even a top 3 pick, let alone the 1st.
They're gonna half-ass the tank aren't they?

They definitely are. If you talk to anyone who knows anything about properly rebuilding, the most obvious move ever is to trade all of Kadri, Coleman and Andersson by the deadline. Like this is a no brainer move to get high value from vets while at the same time helping the tank for the next 2 years. You should probably see if you can get assets for players like Hanley and Farabee as well, but at minimum those 3 NEED to be traded.
But yet by all reports Coleman is staying, Kadri will only get moved if he asks is to, and Andersson could still re sign. None of that makes any sense whatsoever for a rebuilding team. We are definitely going to do half measures and screw this up. It's ridiculous.

I would argue the way the team is playing, even waiting until the trade deadline might be too late to secure a top3 draft pick.
Meanwhile the fans are supposed to take joy in a bad team with no hope of making the plaoffs now (or really ever with the roster and prospects we have) playing at or above expectations.

That's not how I quite see it, personally, for two reasons.
1) I think the Flames will finish in the high 50s/low 60s.
2) I think the bottom shifts quite a lot over 5 year blocks.
Most of the teams that have been at the bottom have seen improvements. We will see what happens over a full season, but I argue that every team in the bottom 5 of the standings on average in the last 3 seasons have improved, except the Flames. The Flames are also about to get worse (Andersson).
I think the bottom of the standings will look more like the 2018--19 season to be honest.

We will see of course, but my thinking is that the bottom 5 teams this season will have a lot more points combined than the bottom 5 teams last season. There are less 'bad teams' this season. I even think that Nashville will improve on their current points percentage as well. Might be some 'fallers' this year - Vancouver looks like a candidate from what we saw tonight, right? But they also had a lot of key injuries. Toronto isn't doing well (and it is great to see!), but I can't imagine that they will be so bad.
I think it is a two-horse race between Calgary and Nashville.

It could just be a blip but I could also see the team playing at a 90-95 point pace the rest of the season. The guys who weren’t scoring to start the year (Zary, Sharangovich, Farabee) are looking much better and starting to collect points. Both goalies look really solid. The defensive breakdowns are becoming way less frequent. The team if taking fewer penalties. Kuznetzov has solidified the top 4 and Bahl is playing better.

To some extent, sure. However 2019 was a pretty weak draft year. With a projected franchise player in McKenna coming up and an otherwise strong draft, there will be other teams that will actively start racing towards the bottom at some point.
Are we still going to be bad enough then? I can very easily see this team still fighting hard for points late in the season when others have already checked out, moving up the standings enough to once again miss out on the top picks. It just seems like that's the Flames way.

Came to the PGT to see if I could actually get a post game take on how the game went since I didn't watch ... scrolled 4 pages and all I could find is the back and forth of tank vs winning and the merits of such. Man, I miss the PGT where we actually talked about how the game went and things that were great and bad about the game.
Good thing I don't lose as much sleep as you all over the merits of tanking.

Who are these rebuilding experts? Can’t be the franchise that kept Couture, probably not the franchise that kept Getzlaf/Silfverberg/Perry and kept Fowler for far longer than one would to get an optimum return. Who are these rebuilding experts that have done this?

If Huska gets them playing at a 95 point pace again that is a real credit to whatever he is doing because this is not a team that on paper should ever play 75% of the season at a 95 point pace.

The Flames have two guys imo that definitely project to be top 75 wingers in the league, Coronato and Gridin. Suspect Coronato ends up with a floor of being a 30-30 guy, with the potential to crack 40 goals.

I've said before he reminds me of Iggy. Post 2006 after he lost the weight. Still has a long way to go, and doesn't have the power forward ability and is smaller though.
