Dreger said the exact same thing.
Pat Steinberg also said we are not at the point where we would start tearing it down.
Maloney himself comes out and says this is not a rebuild.

Like, at what point do you start believing what literally every person is telling you? Including media personnel and the President of Hockey Operations on the team himself.
I don’t think it’s about a sales job on players either. I think it's about fear of losing ticket sales period.

Thing about all those reports except Maloney - they don’t really say “never rebuild” or “not willing to rebuild”. That’s gloss people are putting on the weasel words. And Maloney’sinterview was full of weasel words. When I hear those, I just ignore them and watch what happens.

Once again - if they are so concerned with making POs, what have they done that improves the chances of that happening?

Aren’t the flames the only team in the last 20+ years to not pick in the top 3 or make it to the third round?
The actions of the recent past (ie Conroy’s term) include trading most of their veteran players and not replacing them with veteran players. Sitting with the most cap room in the league and not signing anyone.

Great insult, love it.

How daft can you be to not see that the players we traded only left because they did not want to re sign with us. This was not a master plan, Maloney says right in the article that he wishes those players chose to stay.

As they say on Wikipedia, *citation needed. Some of the players traded never received offers from the team. Some were never even eligible to receive offers before they were traded. And none of them, to the best of my recollection, had ever made a public statement, either on their own or through their agents, saying they didn't want to re-sign here.

So let me rephrase your question: ‘How daft do you have to be not to see this crap that I pulled out of my arse just now?’ Answer: Not daft at all.

unfortunately, Parekh can only play in the AHL on a conditioning stint and will ultimately have to go to the CHL, so I think the desire here from some was to try and make it work in the NHL because he is too good for the CHL

Markstrom asked for a trade (because he was PO’d they tried to trade him). Zadorov was not given an offer. Tanev was not offered more than a year (and everyone knew he wouldn’t accept it). Mangiapane was cut loose.

They offered Hanifin a deal but (a) they knew he wanted out and (b) he was young enough to be part of a rebuild.

Never said people shouldn't be upset. I get it. Just saying that Maloney can dig into his thesaurus all he wants, this is a rebuild. As we've seen by the actions the club has been taking.

Words mean way more than what they do. Even if they trade 2-3 vets this year for futures to add to the 8 vets for futures they have already done we must look at their words to determine whether they are actually rebuilding.

I said this after the Winnipeg Jet's loss and I got roasted. This is not a rebuilding club or a rebuilding year in the eyes of management or ownership. They really are that stupid to believe it. This is a team that is attempting to compete and make playoffs, our horsepower is too low and we are running out of fuel but they don't see it that way.

We can debate all we want but anybody remember this interview this year?? There is virtually no mention of really wanting to bring home a championship or build the team a smarter/different way. It's just about revenue, expansion, salary cap, competitive balance and tv deals for the other clubs.

Ya that was a weird statement. For the rebuild and the next 8-10 years of the franchise it would have been preferable if Hanifin signed a long term contract and that is probably why he was the only player they actually tried to sign. So I am assuming he was talking about Hanifin. But it was definitely one of the weird things he said.

None of which says he wishes they were still here. He's saying that, hypothetically, if they were still here they would probably help the team. You're reading into him wishing those players were still here, or wishing they hadn't been dealt.

you guys are still arguing about this? If they wanted to really compete they would have spent some money in the summer

I agree judge the actions more than the words. But why utter these words anyways? Whether his words meant that he wishes they were still here or whether it just means they would help the team, help the team with WHAT? Being 25th instead of 32nd?

It's just absolutely ridiculous that he would purposely expose how shortsighted he is. As the POHO he hasn't said anything that inspires long term vision. He's arguing over semantics about what could've helped today's team, "we played with energy all year last year, we gotta get back to that". Guy needs to stfu and stay in his office.

Maybe the owner did want to...

And maybe that's why Craig Conroy doesn't have a contract

I hope it's not the case but it's entirely possible at this point.

If the owners (plural, remember) wanted to spend money to compete and Conroy refused, Conroy would already have been fired.

Disagree. He said the first year was difficult for Conroy because of all the pending UFAs. Conroy moved them all out. Now Maloney says a couple of them could help right now.

In other words: Conroy's decisions are partially to blame for where we are this year. He is throwing Conroy under the bus. And it tracks with the comment that Conroy is still being evaluated as GM.

And it tracks with the growing concern that they aren't all on the same page, and that they don't all want a rebuild
