PPG in his draft+2 year in the AHL is pretty darn good. Wonder who his comparables are at this stage in his career.

When he was asked last year who he sees as a comparable player to himself, he answered Yegor Sharangovich. Now, I know people will be up in arms, but I can see it- let’s just hope he’s much better. Both are of similar size, both skate well, and both have an excellent shot. I think Gridin has a touch of power in his game though, and a better two-way conscience.
Can’t think of anyone who is a mirror-image to his style, at least not right now.

Sandman, you troll!
I can see Sharangovich too with that shot and creativity, but Gridin's attack seems stronger and he uses his size a little more aggressively. (which you said)
Sharangovich isn't a bad early comparable, but Gridin is better at a younger age and he was drafted in the first round, so he's also getting more NHL coaching/advice earlier on to address his weaknesses than a fifth round pick like Sharangovich would have gotten at the same age.
What do you think about Landeskog as a ceiling comparable? Gridin floats a more but he shows a similar creative, aggressive attack with high-end skills and vision.

Nylander, Pastrnak, and Rantanen (and Phil Tomasino randomly) are the only players since 2000 to play a good chunk (>20 games) of an AHL season at u20 and have more than 1 p/g. Zegras/Jarvis/Boldy were in their tier as well but in less than 20 gp.
They were all decently over 1 p/g so I wouldn't say they comparable to what Gridin is doing. He's probably more historically comparable with like a Cole Perfetti/JJ Peterka/Alex Holtz/Lukas Reichel (who was just over a p/g, 1.02).
So like I'd say top 6 winger would be looking to be the potential if he can maintain this production this season, but not a lock or anything.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn’t say Landeskog is a good comparable- though I wish he was. Landy is an edgy, physical power-forward who will drop the gloves and stand up for teammates- he’s the type to drag teammates into battle- or at least he was before his last big injury.
You’re right about Sharky though- Gridin is much better, and has a brighter future.

I heard Gridin state that he models his game after Kuznetsov, and I believe stated that he was his favourite player.
However, whenever I watch Gridin, it reminds me of Pavel Bure (again, just a style comparison!). Uses his speed and strength a lot, great shot... That's who ends up popping in my head.

I think if Gridin can fill out into his body a little more I see his ceiling being a Gaborik or Hossa style player in his game; Gridin has good size and a strong frame and is only 19, he has great north/south skating and an nhl release already and showed well in his first look. I’m super excited about this pick right now and I think the sky is the limit in terms of his current trajectory.

Wilkie has been called up from Rapid City. Sounds like Stromgren with a short term injury.

A 5-4 OT win against Coachella Valley (it sure feels like the Wranglers play this team every other game)
Rory Kerins with 2 goals, one the OT winner, and an assist.
Gridin with 1g 2a
Nick Cicek 1g 1a
Martin Frk 1g 2a
Miromanov, Kirkland and Basha with single assists.
Owen Say stops 31/35 for the win

Number of players looked good today.
Gridin is still super smooth. Sees the ice so well and makes great plays.
Kerins had a good game.
Miromanov looks great in the AHL
One player I really like is Parker Bell. Big, fast and physical.

Its kinda funny he has played over 100 NHL games and has 41 NHL points including 20 goals...Not to mention one of the hardest shots ever recorded. There are worse players in the NHL for sure.

He scored a power play goal from the point today. Shot it so hard it went in and out super fast. Looked like it might have hit the post. But it hit the netting.

Did Gallant end up returning? Looked pretty bad when he was knocked out there. I feel like he may need some help on this team, AHL has a lot of tough customers and gallant isnt that big of a guy even if he is tough as hell.
