Yes let's take the international man of mystery and get rid of the mystery part.
Also why is Charlamet playing young versions of everyone. He's thirty years old. Are we supposed to believe that because he's short now, he'll grow to become a mid 30s Bond later? Just cast someone who looks like Bond.
Chalamet has played one “young version” of someone (Dylan) and was within a few years of his age. I don’t think he’s played anyone else and isn’t rumoured to be Bond (producers already shot down the idea).
Running Man remake was great! It's a total throwback to 80s/90s action movies I had a great time with it in imax. It's completely different from the Arnie movie and more closely follows the book which is great because they are so different you can enjoy both without having to compare the two.

He played a young version of Willy Wonka. Not sure if bizarre and fictional characters counts, but there you go.

That is great to hear! I was worried it would be the EXACT same movie again, and was therefor hesitant.
I was hoping it would be new and different, and was hoping it would be good! I will go see it now, based simply on your review that it is not the same movie over again, decades apart!
Thanks!

I watched the best worst movie Miami Connection. The "plot" revolves around a rock band of orphans who do Tae Kwon Do battling against ninjas who are smuggling drugs into Florida. It's as awesome as it sounds
I was thinking earlier today I should watch a movie this weekend and I want a suggestion:
What is the single greatest acting performance you've ever seen?
I think my top two are probably Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine and Forest Whitaker in Last King of Scotland. Given that context, what would others suggest? I'm honestly not sure I can put a third performance in the same category - for example, De Niro in Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are obviously amazing performances but I just never got the same "holy ####" sense from watching them that I do watching the above two performances. I can come up with movies with amazing acting overall from a cast, like Network or Glengarry Glen Ross, but in terms of someone basically just dominating a film in a way that transcends the level of other great performances I am struggling to think of a third that gets there. There Will be Blood is probably what I'd put there if I was forced to pick one right now but I need other contenders.
Suggestions?

I would have said Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn as he entirely consumed that character, but it's diminished somewhat as he seemingly plays the same character in Crazy Heart.
Although it may get disregarded as super hero schlock, Heath Ledger disappeared into the Joker. Has there been a better Joker in the whole of the franchise?
Gary Oldman should probably fit in somewhere for something.
Denzel Washington was pretty terrific in Training Day. That's a terrifying character.

I consider this good character acting, I don't think Ledger could do more with what he had there, but it's not in the same ballpark IMO, because there is only so much room for those guys to work. I think for example there are at least 3 performances in Glengarry Glen Ross on that level, but because they're part of an ensemble cast they can't fully stretch their legs... As far as Jokers go, Joaquin had more headroom on his Joker role but didn't fill it. I have however been told I should watch him in The Master, as a potential example of this. I have also been told Toni Collette in Hereditary but I just can't get into horror as a genre. Naomi Watts in Mulholland Dr also doesn't get there for me probably because the movie is just too disjointed to let me appreciate the performance fully (intentionally, obviously).

Too cheesy. Like, fine, good movie, but not even close.

Same thing - more of a character performance as part of a small ensemble, he's in like 1/4 of the movie and Tommy Lee Jones and Brolin take up a lot of room... If you were looking for "performances in a single scene that steal a movie" the gas station scene would do the job but that's not what I'm after here.
Jake Gyllenhal in Nightcrawler is another one that occurs to me as something that's in the same vein but doesn't quite hit the same highs as the all time best.

I don't think an actor's performance should be disregarded or discounted because they play a character. I think that's what acting is, regardless if it's from an original work or a known IP.
Every performer is limited by the material they are given and the scope of the project.

Yeah... I have heard this one suggested a lot of times as well so there's a good chance you're right. I have thought I should watch this for years but I know what it's about and I have to convince myself to just do it at some point.

I'm not discounting it, but a performance of that type is just not what I'm trying to locate here in terms of a movie I want to watch. There are far more of the "all time memorable great performance in a non-dominant role" throughout movie history, there are far fewer "Hi I'm the director I'm going to point a camera at you for the better part of 2 hours and the success or failure of this film as a piece of art will more or less depend entirely on what you do with this character" movies where someone knocks it out of the park.
EDIT: Your avatar just gave me a good idea to illustrate this: I think Ian McShane as Al Swearengen is arguably the best character ever put to screen on TV, but Deadwood is quintessentially a show driven by an ensemble cast - I'm looking more for a "Bryan Cranston as Walter White" type of performance, except in the film context.
