Tough to see a young guy face that much adversity.
It's also tough to see as a flames because we desperately need good young players and a significant portion of our prospect/young player base sems to be injury prone.
Feel like we probably could have had a similar thread about Backlund back in 2013 when he was having an issue staying healthy.

The kid has actually bounced back from injuries quite well so far in his career, and seems to have a very determined attitude in terms of his off ice preparation to get bigger, stronger, and faster.

Of course nothing is for certain but I wouldn't write him off yet.

Yet another example of a veteran blocking a young guy's path to the NHL

Pretty sure Murray paid Backlund off to get one of the young guys out of the lineup. Foligno too!

Who do we trade for to fill that left-shot LW hole?

Honzek had a hand issue at the WJC, then a concussion last year, and now a shoulder/collar bone issue.

If he had a shoulder that popped out every 30 games I'd see it as a bigger concern.

One more season with Backlund should take care of that.

Yah, for awhile there we also thought Crosby was cooked in terms of too many injuries, but he's been quite durable after he got over the concussion issues. I'm hoping Honzek is the same with whatever ails him early in his career.

Depends on the injuries I guess. Backlunds were all obviously bad luck and not likley to be repeated. I get nervous around knee and shoulder issues. And concussions of course, but those are super hard to predict as far as long term/injury prone stuff. But medicine is always improving so who knows with any injury?

Would be a good spot for Stromgren.

Could be a privacy/confidentiality thing, I'm guessing. Do we really need to know?

He's still very young and has shown growth the past couple seasons. This stinks, but there's still hope.

Darn he was one of the few bright spots in the first quarter of the season.

This year is just one gut punch after another. Must be what it felt like to be an Oilers fan for the decade of darkness.

From listening to coach Sutter he's likely the next man up.

Yeah, he was just starting to put it together. Just turned 21, but feels like he has been in the system forever.

I always thought it was held back so scumbags don't try and re-injure the guy

Still puzzling what Backlund was doing on the play.

Honzek was forced to be holding the blue line, waiting for Backlund to dump it in, as Backlund was coasting all alone on the right wing.

Backlund doesn’t dump it in, instead skates towards the middle of the ice with the puck and then suddenly decides to dump it in when he gets towards Honzek and general traffic.
