Yeah thinking about it again that would be an overpay if it were a straight swap, but I do think if the opportunity arises to acquire a prospect that's been made available by another team while also moving out some bottom 6 guys to help with the logjam there they should always consider.

I’m not sure how after the Bean blunder the Flames PR don’t have a better handle on who goes on camera for these types of updates.
In a big year, with an awful lot of fan sentiment in favour of a rebuild, this communication was hard to view as anything but abject failure.
A bit of honesty couldn’t possibly be worse than whatever that was.

Yeah even if you believe that you can't take it at face value and theyre just trying to promote for ticket sales, it was very tone deaf and poorly delivered which in itself doesn't inspire any confidence.
And the stumbled rebuild and quick adjustment just comes off very strange when put together with that Bean speach.
It is very clear that at the very least, rebuild is a bad word in this organization, which is very very odd.

Pat and Wes definitely with damage control on FlamesTalk regarding the Maloney interview and using a lot of logic as to why he wasn’t going to come out and wave the white flag like we all want.
They went deeper into their perception of things that this team is looking long term and are likely getting closer to leaning into this season and thinking really long term.

I would be shocked if the Flames are "leaning into this losing season'. Come on, this is a planned rebuild. Their play was unsustainable last season. The plan is to trade Andersson for futures. They didn't bring in an experienced backup (Cooley has been doing well, but that's a tough bet, right!).
Flames haven't even tried to improve since last season. Not even a little. Are we seriously thinking that doing this poorly was some accident? This is the plan. They are confusing everyone simply by not stating they are rebuilding. I think it is hilarious right now personally. Do people - even pundits - really need to hear "we are rebuilding" before they proclaim "Team X is kickstarting a rebuild". I bet if Conroy does admit that he is rebuilding, unless he gives a date, these pundits will all say: "The Flames have announced the kickstart to their rebuild". LoL Right?
Keeps us talking, that's for sure. It will definitely make the rebuild feel a whole lot shorter and less painful too.

When the agent is given permission to seek out a trade, it usually means that the GM tried to gauge interest and their are no takers.
The agent is given permission so that they can perhaps convince a team to give their client a chance. Things like how long is Lambert willing to stay in the AHL with a new organization or a discussion with the coach about how Lambert will fit in the system, etc. The team might feel better about giving up an asset after talking with the player.
If there were teams knocking on the door with fair offers, the Jets would just take it.

So basically, a waiver substitute for players who aren't eligible for waivers? I can see that.
At this point, I don't think even the Flames could guarantee this kid an NHL roster spot. If that's what he's in a snit with the Jets about, no wonder there are no takers.

Pat is going to have back issues with all the water he's been carrying for the Flames organization so far this season.

It might not be 100% but I'd bet it's a lot closer to 50/50 than you guys think it is.
Any friends or coworker that are big fans that I talk to want the team to blow it up and get a high pick, and the casual fans I know just think the team is bad and boring to watch this season, so they've mostly stopped watching.
In the end I don't think either side is really that happy with the direction and really excited at the proposition of watching this team compete in its current incarnation for the rest of this season

I hope we get a rare November trade so we can talk about that for a while. You would think a lot of teams out there could use a top 4 dman and surely one of them has a GM willing to overpay...

The problem with the Flames at the hockey ops level, was when Sutter was fired, was that the team was supposed to crash. They had the mandate to clear out the big contracts and those that didn’t want to be here. However, this was for the purpose and goal always, to not still be on the downswing/or on a decent upswing at least, going into the new building.
It now looks like they will stink going into the new building, due to Conroy maybe over estimating some of the ability to make the moves he envisioned in the last two seasons, to have this team on the upswing by now.
So now a bit at the crossroads. And yeah regardless it’s tough messaging for the GM and organization to admins before US Thanksgiving, to basically say you’re out of the playoffs. It hasn’t been this bad/hopeless this early for the Flames since probably 2000 or 2001 and the media landscape was a lot different back then and how to approach things so there’s not a lot of experience.

Why would Murray be so butthurt about a rebuilding team entering the new rink? He's barely on the hook for any of it.
Is he worried about his immaculate, sparkling image, for when he drops the first puck?
Lol

It is "funny" (Sad) that effectively the same team this year and last, we did good when we didn't have control of our first, and now are bottoming out
I fully expected them to be horrible last year and was completely wrong. I think CC did too.
Having your own 1st end up 32nd overall when you planned it to be a rebuild year ..... is something

He's worried about selling tickets and putting bums on seats at a time when he'll have to shell out $100 million U.S. on player salaries.
Lol yourself.
