Another day, another player linked to the Jays. Today Passan has the Jays among the teams interested in Cody Bellinger.
Not surprising given their past interest. I’m a little wary of his home/road splits and that he hit ALL his home runs to right field. But I like his game and could be a more cost effective option to Tucker.

That lineup with tweaks based on who the opponent is putting on the mound is so much fun to think about.

With Tiedmann now part of the team, I wonder if they'll go outside the box and go with a 6 man rotation?
1) future ace
2) Gausman
3) Bieber
4) Yesavage
5) Tiedmann
6) Varland
Again, I assume Barrios is dealt. Kinda makes sense from a selling standpoint that making it a six man rotation allows the starters a little bit extra rest without doing the shady thing like putting them on the IR like the Dodgers did.

I'm fine with him being fired into the sun. Or sent on a small submarine expedition to the Marianas Trench.
I think putting Tiedemann and Yesavage into the rotation is pushing it.

I agree that both of them in there is a crapshoot. However, if he’s ready I don’t know what else you do? He was supposed to be the next guy (Tiedemann) but got injured. As for Berrios, I have no doubt he has trade value.
I think we’ll see some big turnover from last year though. I can’t see Scherzer, Bassitt and Berrios coming back simply because they’re better tuned for long relief at this part of their careers but still want to give SP a chance.

There's definitely going to be turn over. I agree Tiedemann was going to be the next guy up pre-injury but you need to let him work his way back before just assuming he's going into a MLB Rotation.
All of Scherzer, Bassit and Berrios are done as starters. I'll be honest, I think Lauer and Francis are done too. It's part of why I was so bearish on this team before Bieber took his option.

Yeah, you need him to prove he's ready the way Yusavage did last year. He's pitched 8 games in two years.

I believe in the Jays.

Guys... slow your roll. They just did this to prevent him from being claimed in the Rule 5 draft. His most likely destination is optioned to AA/AAA. At this point I think they should start looking at him as a future bullpen piece. 8 games over the last two years... probably a couple of years before he's built up to handle a starters innings load (If he's healthy which at this point is a major if). I'd option him to Buffelo to begin the season as a starter and then call him up to fill a spot in the pen.

I think it makes sense to try and build him up as a starter just because of the value difference. He's young and cost controlled either way, so if you can fill a start lot with him (potential value $15MM) that's a lot better than if you fill a mid-relief spot with him (potential value $1.5 MM)
I'd rather have a 50% chance he turns into a good starter than a 100% chance he turns into a good reliever.

Why? He's done as MLB level player. I don't think he has the juice for the KBO or the NBP either to be honest. I am pretty sure his professional career is done.

I'd be fine with him on a minor league deal. Let him eat innings in AA. He's probably got as much chance of figuring it out and turning into something as your average prospect.
A spot on the 40 man though? No way.

Yeah Manoah is cooked and though injuries were involved, one half good season went to his head and he could never recover.
I’m of the opinion that Francis could be done too, and his month of baseball history was only a year ago, and a full two (or three?) years later than Manoah’s height of his career.

For a big strong dude, Manoah’s stuff was always pretty mediocre. His command was extremely even before the injury.
If after surgery, he lost anything at all on his fastball velo or his pitch shape, he’s simply not major league caliber. He just doesn’t have any margin to give up. If he was throwing 99-100mph with nasty movement he could lose a few mph and still be very effective. He was throwing 93-94 with poor command and decent but not spectacular secondary stuff.

Coming back from TJ means it’ll take Tiedemann at least a year to feel normal. Best case scenario is he can be a relief weapon at the end of the season. Expecting him to be a starter in the MLB next year is wishful thinking.

Part of what made jays successsful is innings eaters .
Bassitt beerios and gausman not flashy. 30 games 170 innings.
Next year reliability is needed again especially with playoff run. Somebody will pitch. More youngsters too
