I tried listening to it yesterday, and it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm still glad you posted it, because I haven't heard of it before.

I'm missing someone like Jeff Marek to actually guide the conversation, instead of just jumping between tidbits and stories. That said, I'm sure it's going to get a bit more polished eventually.

The amount of ads i hear now for celebrity driven podcasts makes me think these podcast companies are offering big money.

Ed Helms has a ####ing history podcast.

Why make the comparison at all then, if that's not what you're willing to defend or argue?

Regardless of your opinion, the Tkachuk brothers are personalities that draw fan interest to the game, same as hockey fights, which are currently legal.

"Man I wish the NHL would do more to grow the game!"
"Not that way!"

The point is that I don't think negative coverage grows the game.

Who gives a #### if this grows the game? (Which isn't a forgone conclusion, BTW). What's the benefit to you and I if "the game grows"?

A future with $200 nosebleeds and $25 cans of Coors Light does not interest you?

The sports coverage of the fight wasn’t negative. In the U.S. or in Canada. It had broadcasters and sports personalities buzzing with excitement on Sportsnet, ESPN, the Athletic, CBS, TSN, Sports Illustrated, the New Heights podcast, radio shows, etc.

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but do you watch or listen to sports media shows? Or just read about hockey online?

Even news bulletins here in the UK covered the fights.

It was even in the papers.

Of course I do. The ones that are good talk about hockey.

And “buzzing with excitement net”. nah. Laughing at a spectacle? yup. I suppose it you think manufactured fights are a positive thing, then you can say this was media attention over a good thing. If you think it was a reinforcement of what people who don’t know much about hockey think it’s like, then media attention over it soesn’t seem to “grow the game” to me.

Just like having a crappy unfunny podcast isn’t going to grow the game.

For those interested, the catalyst for the Tkachuk podcast was their appearance on the Kelce brothers' podcast. They started getting calls from Barstool and others about wanting to "sign them" (so to speak) and set them up with their own show. They declined at the time because they wanted to focus on their respective playoff runs, and then Wave (the team that produces the Kelce show) circled back with them in the offseason and that's when the ball started rolling.

It wasn't the Tkachucks "wanting their own podcast for attention." It was production teams recognizing an opportunity and reaching out to them.

The Kelce brothers' episode with the Tkachucks is around an hour and twenty minutes long, but here's the excerpt about the 4 Nations:

So tired of 98% of hockey interviews. Way way way over-coached for media.
These are 2 knuckle draggers having real dialogue.
Liked and subscribed.

This clip's pretty good from this week's episode. They're definitely not as polished or natural-sounding as they will be in a year's time (if they keep it going). Those of us used to hockey interviews can appreciate that there's already more personality than we're used to seeing from players though.

Anyway, this was pretty fun, talking about the heavies. Chucky volunteering to go to Italy to finish building the arena (and Brady chirping him) lol.
