You say you haven't seen the Flames do state of the org pressers, but you claim this was one. so they finally decide to do one, and that is what they do? I doubt that very much.
'If he appeared, that is what the club wanted'. Well, maybe it required their approval, maybe it didn't, but that isn't the same thing as 'sending him out there'
|
Yikes, this seems like kind of a minor point to debate. I didn't claim this was a presser. I'm sure it didn't look like one to you either. Treliving just did one with the Leafs this week. An actual press conference. Flames seem to like to send their guys to do interviews on broadcasts instead of that.
Would the Flames fly Maloney to Buffalo just for this interview? No of course not, those were your words not mine.

Well we are in year 3 of the rebuild so I suspect that vocal component of the fan base will get their 5 year rebuild (maybe even more years). So folks should be happy that we are already in year 3 of that rebuild.

After Gaudreau left and Tkachuk followed, the rebuild should have started...after missing the playoffs that season the rebuild should have started...after being just outside the playoffs again the next season the rebuild should have started. Prioritising the result last year over a rebuild was ridiculous.
Because of the delay, we're now in the long rebuild scenario...denial is part of that. So yeah get ready to hear about the Flames being out of the playoffs 7-8yrs when we finally start to move upwards.
For the longer in the tooth rebuild folks this is worst case right now, that we're looking at a 4th straight year out of the playoffs and still haven't take the first step.
|
The rebuild started when they traded Toffoli for a younger player and a pick. That was in June of 2023. So next draft will be the start of year 4 of the rebuild.

They are making outright moves in the open. We can all see them in last place. We can all see that Andersson is on the trade market. We can all see that the Flames have sold vets for picks + prospects. We can all see that they are a bad team with a lot of cap room. We can all see exactly every single move that has been made, and NOT been made (i.e. no moves to try and push this team into the playoffs, even at last season's deadline).
Yet, there are still media members convinced that the Flames are not rebuilding. I wonder if they think that Conroy is so inept? I am just finding this hilarious.
At this point, I would believe that Maloney spoke just to further troll everyone. I love it!
|
Conroy would be like Garth Snow bad at being a GM if the plan for the last 3 years with the trades he made was to actually try to win right now. He is in year 3 of his rebuild plan and I think it is going pretty good so far.

Your words were "I speculate they did send him out, and it wasn't an impromptu request"
That implies sending him there, and having a predetermined and purposed message to present. I don't see it that way at all. And it's a pretty lacklustre message, if they did. But whatever.

The Flames found Wolf (luck involved there) and drafted Parekh. They might have two of the four already.
Plus they've drafted extremely well in the past few seasons.
You're other point ... imagine if they made the playoffs last year, and got a reset on the number of years out?

Random fact about one 19 year the Flames have. There have been 7 players in AHL history that have averaged a PPG or better in the AHL in the history of the league.
Jason Spezza, Willy Nylander, Miko Rantanen, Brian Lawton, Pavel Demitra, Lucas Reichel and Philip Tomasino.
5 of those guys are pretty good hockey players (or were)

Gridin is a very exciting prospect, and I do agree his ceiling is sky high.

I think he would be worth pursuing at the right price. Oh, but then what would we do with Morton?

I wonder what the cost would be - no way it's still a 1st rounder - but maybe a 2nd.
It's where an extra second right now would be nice because you really don't want to move your own that might be pick 32 (Since ottawa forfeits their pick)

I find it a little odd that his agent is being asked to find a trade partner. Is that the Jets’ way of saying, ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out’?

Think it's the same problem as here where they already have too many forwards and no real room.
Really they need a dman more than a forward.

Convince him he'll be paired with Gridin and they move up together.

Glad you commented because I was completely lost with this. What if he wants Toronto but they have nothing to give? Very confusing unless one of y'all knows if this happens alot?
