Just an awesome guy to have in the room. People that talk about trading him for a 2nd are nuts - he is the perfect backup, he's trusted by his team, he is perfectly happy as the backup, he has the perfect temperament to compliment Wolf as a tandem, and he's an awesome teammate.
You have to have players, and he fills his role perfectly.

Cooley is overdue for a win here. He's played about as well as you could ask for. This is always a good uniform matchup to me. I'm happy...I didn't want to see the team end up 5-72-5 on the season...
There’s an argument to be made that he’s been more effective than Wolf. I realize he’s played way less games. But regardless of the number of games a 1.80 GAA and .935 save % is nothing to sneeze at.
Not entirely sure why he’s not getting more starts.
Boys played much better. Cooley was dialed in which is awesome.
Always good to see the boys get rewarded. It's going to be a long season and it's unlikely to have many wins so anytime they can play well and get rewarded for it should help the mental side of things. Hard to play well when everything around you is so negative.
Not sure why people had an issue with what Maloney said. Honestly didn't seem like he said much. Said they need to get faster. I agree. He knows fans want to see youth injected now but they're not going to put their young guys in bad spots because they think it is bad for development. I agree with that too. He also mentioned that the team will continue to get younger, we just need to exercise some patience. He said they have a plan and they aren't deviating from it, which is good cause the plan has been to make this team younger. He came across as calm and reasonable, which is a trait I want in my management. Fans are panicky chicken littles, if our management was like that I'd be concerned.
I also like that it was just a quick interview between periods. Much better than calling a State of the Union press conference to say nothing like some other general manager.

Buffalo is a master class in sucking in spite of high draft picks. Their current roster includes picks 1 (X2), 8, 12, 13 (x2), 14 (X3), 28, and 31. That's eleven first round picks, two number one overall picks, and nine picks in the top half of the first round. Not to mention that they traded away a number two overall who would have been a number one overall in any other draft year. Certainly a cautionary tale for Team Tank (not that I would support any effort to improve the team this season, just don't want to send out the message that the team is planning a fire sale, either).

How are you supposed to tank with goaltending like that?
Say what you will, but buffalo definitely looks like a team that could be good but has zero, nil, nadda, veteran leadership. Say what you will about the flames and yes we don't need 6 blah blah, but they have NOTHING. It's truly remarkable how much of a tire fire they remain to be.
