My prediction? Flames finish last and draft 2nd. Flames draft 23rd with Vegas' pick.

Doesn’t matter where it lands, our scouts are good in the later part of the 1st round.

I don't like your prediction.

We can optimistic right? At some point the odds have to even-out for the Flames:

Vegas finishes 16th - win lottery, pick moves to 6th.

Ottawa wins the next draw. Their pick is forfeit.

Flames pick 1st and 5th.

I’d take it.

McKenna or Stenberg + Hurlbert or Malhotra

That would be amazing. That could be McKenna and Lawrence right now.

Even if Vegas stays at 16th, that would potentially be Suvanto? (assuming we prioritize C over BPA at 16)

It wouldn't be the first time Vegas has fallen just short of the playoffs. Looking at their active roster, I feel like they're due for another.

We can move it with our pick to go from barely 1st to really 1st

The Flames are due some good luck after the fiasco last year, with Montreal getting our pick. Vegas is still only one point out of first place (behind....checks notes....the Ducks). If Stone comes back, they likely surge forward.

The Pacific division is so mediocre that things are tight though. A 3 game losing streak is the difference between first place and second last place in the conference.

We will see how it plays out in the future and if Eklund or Aitcheson are better but I don't think the Flames pick changes even if they kept their own

I agree. I think if the Flames had picked 15th and 18th instead of 18th and 32nd they still would have taken Reschny and Potter.

If the Flames draft 1-3 and later at 20-23 it would be a huge win this year. Land your blue chip offensive lottery forward, and then go after a D who can challenge to play in the top 4 down the road. With the other drafted assets piling up and hopefully a few more to come via trade, it would be safe to say that the team would finally be setup to start trending upward.
