Oh cool. So you're saying a contract extension is imminent then? When is it happening?

Royle said he heard Conroy is safe recently. Don’t the Flames usually wait until the offseason to handle extensions for the GM anyway?

Haven’t heard the same for the coaches though.
Not that I think they’re going anywhere, after all Huska is Craig’s guy and just signed that awesome extension.
But I do wonder if utilization and compete comes into question, guys just don’t seem to be as motivated as they were last year.
Coming to the rink is more of a chore than anything thus far.

Same thing happened to Tre. Flames ownership wait until closer to years end before extending for whatever reason.

In his last year, I thought it was reported that they offered Treliving an extension in September and he declined it at that time. Then after the season, they tried again. I remember thinking they were crazy to leave a guy in charge of signing contracts and trading players when it was obvious he had one foot out the door already.

Coaches are mostly new hires and/or newly extended. Not sure why anyone would be worried about them.

I remember when Burke was still here and he extended Treliving. That was a season he was working without an extension. 2017 or 18 I believe?

This was a good, clear conversation - and I really don't think anyone out there holds a different opinion.
Conroy was handed a pile of rubbish, and he's slowly working his way out of it. He needs time to cook.

Hm. I sort of just got the impression that this was more or less a done deal. They're going to extend Conroy, they just havent gotten around to it yet.

The wizard left him a mess
You can’t really judge Conroy with what he has done. What is he going to do with a bunch of low end prospects and bottom of the round picks?
Judgement is going to come when he gets the high end lottery picks in the next few year or if he is lucky with some home run picks

No reason to believe he’s not safe for at least a couple seasons to come.

I think Conroy should be given enough time to collect some good young players, and start developing into a team with a formidable core. Hope he gets the extension at least.

He's toast.
You can't extend a GM when he's trying to win and the team is in last place.

The twist will hit hard when we find out Conroy doesn’t want to extend.

So....
If it's true that GMs make panic moves that show improvement/success to keep their jobs, Conroy should in turn ship picks and prospects out to try and make the playoffs....
And, if the owner is suuuuuper involved and preventing all of his GMs from rebuilding, Conroy will in turn listen (to keep his job) and not rebuild, and instead, ship out picks and prospects to compete now...

A real possibility actually when you let any contract run to the end...
