I guess it’s not a hidden agenda anymore - Alberta is going to have two tiered healthcare. This government is really unbelievably terrible.

Yup.
Quote:
Alberta intends to allow physicians working in the province’s public health care system to simultaneously offer services in a parallel private market, according to confidential draft legislation obtained by The Globe and Mail.
Premier Danielle Smith’s government has prepared draft amendments that would transform the Alberta Health Care Insurance Act and establish a model for medicine unlike any in the country. No other Canadian province allows doctors to offer care under both systems at the same time.
Ms. Smith has long pledged to overhaul Alberta’s health care, but neither she nor her United Conservative Party have floated adjustments as significant as those contained in the draft amendments. The proposals could nurture a hybrid system where some Albertans have better access to care than those who rely on the public option, according to experts who reviewed the draft amendments. The changes could also create an environment where private insurance companies could flourish, the experts said.
“This is definitely two-tiered medicine,” said Braden Manns, a professor of health policy at the University of Calgary.

Well, if using the notwithstanding clause twice in a month (assuming they do that this week), and two-tier healthcare doesn't break them, I'll be at a loss to understand anything about this province.

They're apparently going to use it for their "keeping kids safe" bill (or whatever dumb name they gave the bill that takes away trans rights). They haven't released the specifics of that bill yet, and apparently, it is coming on Thursday. However, they are going to use the clause because it also violates charter rights.

How's this healthcare boondoggle even allowed within the Canada Charter?? Or are just legit going to NWC that too?
My ####ing god.
Also what about the giant huge conflict of interest if Doctors can work in both public and their own private firm??
Am I going crazy?? This seems impossible or super intentionally setup to fail?

I wouldn't underestimate the average conservative voter.
The UCP is like chicken tenders, doesn't taste that great but is safe. Voting for anything else would be like trying chicken parm, yeah it's basically the same, but its got some red stuff on it so it might be awful.
Better stay safe.

No it won't. Alberta is easily the most ignorant group of citizens in the country. It's not even close.

Ignorant might not be the best word, but there definitely is some naïveté about how luxurious life in Alberta really is.

This is a fantastic post, and I'm proud to thank it. Sure, it could refer to many things and people, but at the same time, we all know who it relates to, and I like to think my version is accurate.
(Also, the same post, word for word, could go in the American Politics thread, and it would also be entirely accurate for a bonus!)

It's the right word.
Unaware, uniformed, lacking knowledge.
Anyone with a brain can see the things the UCP have done, or want to do, and know that they are bad ideas. Not Alberta though. Most people aren't even paying attention, or haven't paid attention when these things have been tried elsewhere. They don't care to learn, and they don't care to look at things with an ounce of logic.
This plan alone, you can see that it does absolutely nothing to address healthcare issues.

Time to dust off the Romanow Report and see if it's still relevant.
The UCP is simply looking at health care as a line item in a budget (and it's a big one). They want to keep the revenues the feds send out while cutting the provincial health expenses by offloading costs to Alberta residents in the form of private care. It's privatization 101.
Klein tried this for YEARS. Maybe the new generations need it explained to them?
