F Boston Pizza too, you charge too much!
And the worst decision Murray Edwards made was letting a lame duck GM control the reins in his last season. He should have been jettisoned the minute he didn't sign an extension.

Ya, wasn't too impressed with Shanny but as soon as Dubas expressed doubts he wanted to remain long-term, he was gone. If you're not sure, he wasn't going to let him make decisions.

I’ve said it elsewhere, he pretty much co-GM’d the Panthers cup winner, and helped revive Montreal with the 2 firsts they ended up with to take on Monahan

Good public speaker though. He does have a process
He's an example of how a person that's mediocre at their job can climb the ladder by simply being a good talker and creating the illusion that he's the hardest working guy in the business so he has to be good.

I'm sure he works the phones hard. Don't think he has much of an idea what to do though.

I've said this before but the only thing he was good at was squeezing his own guys in contract talks. In everything else he always plays catch-up, like trading for guys that are living off their past reputation and falling in love with big, tough guys. A first for Laughton (lol) and a first, fourth and Minten for Carlo. Laughton is nothing but a fourth liner can Carlo hasn't been an impact player for years after getting concussions. And now Pagnotta is saying Tre may already be looking to move on from him.

The damage control for Marner was talking about how they almost traded him for Rantanen but the NMC came into play. Now with the Leafs in a pinch we are hearing about how close they were to getting Andersson last year.

Hearing you missed out on a big trade once is kind of exciting but hearing it after every big deal becomes annoying.

Traded a 6th for Cade Webber

Traded a 4th and a 21 yr old former 5th round pick for Connor Dewer

Traded a 7th round pick for the negotiating rights to Tanev

Traded a 1st and top prospect in their org for Laughton and a 4th and a 5th

Traded a 1st, a 4th and Minten (19 year old former 2nd rounder) for Carlo

Traded a 3rd for Maccelli

Traded a 4th for Dakota Joshua

In terms of acquiring picks he did the following

Pulled a classic Brad trading the 23rd overall pick in the 24 draft to drop to 32nd and pick up a 58th overall pick

Then moved the 58th overall pick to Florida for the 64th overall pick in 2025 and a 7th rounder

Traded Liljgren for a conditional 3rd and a 6th

Traded Conor Dewer and Timmins for a 5th (moved down one round and gave up a prospect in the overall Dewer transaction plus lost Timmins)

Just classic Wizardry there with the Leafs assets to get them to where they are today.
It's amazing. Conroy could make some of the dumbest trades imaginable and I'd still be happy we don't have this pompous 'process' GM anymore

I wonder if Toronto will be a threat to pick top 3. Their poor play and injuries continue to mount.

The Leafs have actually played worse than their record though...they have also played a ton of home games.

Most GMs and coaches who go through Toronto leave with their reputations shredded but Treliving is speedrunning the process. He appears to have created a non-playoff team or borderline WC team with no first until 2028. I think he's actually been worse than in Calgary. Is this how he operates without overbearing ownership? Maybe Edwards breathing down his neck wasn't such a bad thing after all.

Kyle Dubas seems one of the few who escaped that market with his reputation intact.

Article in The Athletic suggesting the Leafs need to make a trade and after eliminating everyone else of value they came up with... Max Domi and Brandon Carlo.

Just laughably bad what he's done with the Leafs.

Losing Marner for nothing hurts, but could have been weathered with some savy follow up moves.

Going all in with 1sts++ for players like Laughton and Coyle has completely sunk them. Same thing with us. Back against the wall and bets the house with a bad hand.
He lets one bad mistake cascade into many.

Now they're stuck, exactly like we were.

This is what always bugged me the most about BT - and I think I was less of a fan then most during his tenure

He never seemed to have a concrete plan to address holes properly . He traded picks for dart throws or 2nd “class” players , instead of going big and having a plan to address a need properly

Imagine if all those picks above were package for 2 star players vs spare parts? That’s what you see Vegas , Florida , Dallas do .

I wondered if he would have learned from his time here but it really does seem he brought the same playbook

Brad stinks, hard to believe some here fervently argued he was our 2nd (or even 3rd) best GM of all-time. Fuggin Feaster did more for us than BP-boy.

Brad managed to sink the Leafs faster than he did the Flames.
And to think they tried to pin a lot of it on Shannahan as he departed lol.

Right after the Tkachuk trade and the signing of Huberdeau, a large number of posters wanted to erect a statue of him.

It's easy to criticize in hindsight, but you have to evaluate a GM's moves in real time. At the time of those actions (Tkachuk and Huberdeau), they looked pretty good, and he did well with what he had.

Then things went to crap. Now, everything he did looks terrible.
