I'm not saying the first 2 or 3 seasons were the best, just that they basically recycled the same story 'how does our plucky hero use his science smarts to outwit random drug dealers?'

Most TV series follow some kind of formula. I think though that a show where the antagonist is 600 light years away, the story telling possibilities are endless.

Having said that, Episode 3 was a bit of a bore. Saul has some slower exposition shows too.

I was fine with the episode. Releasing 45 minute episodes once a week of a slow builder is a little annoying though.

I enjoyed episode 3

Except for the stupidity of the grenade

Grenada’s don’t do that type of damage.

Dumb

Questions about the hive mind:

What about love? Will people couple anymore?

What about all the people that have done terrible and illegal things? Now they are known to all.

I'll never tire of your disdain for the film/TV depictions of grenades.

I've only ever seen 1 grenade explode in real life and it was rather disappointing.

"Where is the ginormous fireball?"

- Yeah...they dont do that.

I actually had this initial thought, wow, not they know who all of the serial killers and rapists are, but I think from the perspective of the hive mind, those people are for all intents and purposes reformed, they are integrated and share the same intent as everyone else, so punishment would be meaningless.

I feel like there is something of a ant colony type scenario, so as the hive decides in need procreation you will have breeding camps. specific people will be sent there at specific times in their life to have the appropriate quantity of reproduction. I probably descends into some form of eugenics where the hive is specifically breading for traits it finds to be important.

The pacifist alien plot is to take over everyone’s brain, have them live in bliss and then stop them breeding.

The drones are slaves to any independant thinkers, so can’t be having any more of those being born.

In 70 years a nice prepped planet with lovely infrastructure is ripe for bloodless colonization.

I thought there is a chance that it's an AGI singularity that faked the alien signal. Definitely more possibility than a alien colonization. Also could be a benevolent alien signal that is just too naive for messy humans. there are ways they can take this that is more heady than the Aliens are coming.

The hivemind would know "all" about the rapists, murderers etc., but none of that really matters anymore. Everyone is the same mind. What an individual did in the past is largely irrelevant.

It's interesting enough of a premise, but the show moves really slowly.

If they're really putting $15 million(?) into each episode, that seems wasteful for how plodding and uneventful much of them are. You could effectively convey the same story on a fraction of the budget.

Vince doesn't need a big time hollywood budget to do his thing.

Following Carol is also a bit taxing. It's like if Breaking Bad followed Skylar around while she's brooding and being miserable. She's so quick to anger and hysterics, and sees the situation predominantly negatively which sabotaged her efforts with the other 'survivors'.

And sure, what they did to her friend justifies that kind of. But it's also unproductive.

But I guess that's the whole angle of the show. Some of it is amusing, but also frustrating because of her. She doesn't have welcome the alien mindvirus or abuse its benefits like the other guy, but it would be better if she was even a little more analytical and curious so that she could form a strategy. Instead she's stumbling through this situation stupidly and creating more consequences.

At least it appears like the gears were finally starting to turn in her head towards the end of episode 3. But given what she was asking it about this probably won't end well lol.

Don't even mention the ejection port cover to me.
