He's genuine surly, always has been. Hates the Flames, too. I like that about him. He's not fake and doesn't suffer fools. When he made fun of Abbot a couple of times, it was warranted.
'They call Dave Lowry, Pi because he loves math.'
'LOL, where did you hear that? I was his team mate. He's called Pie because of his big round pie-shaped face.'
I thought that was awesome.

Rebuilding clubs don't throw out 1st round picks, sign veterans to 7/8 year deals and get what are deemed high quality players in return for trades (Frost/Farabee/Sharongovich) We also gave a coach a 2 year extension for the great work deemed last year.
Let's be honest, after Johnny, Chucky, Hanafin, Bennett, Monahan, Markstrom and others left or wanted to leave, we should have blown it up. Ownership and management thought they could hang around or stay competitive and made those moves above. We are really just that bad as a club and can't compete and are now being forced into trading a lot of players who signed here very recently, trying to win.

Lol exactly my coma comment...trading monanhan!? That was over 3 years and another gm ago ffs. Flames arent all in to win lol. Very recently?
Maybe go look at the cap situation before saying something so far off base. Ras is as good as gone..they already had him moved but he wouldnt sign the extention. Dude welcome to 2025 where the Flames have 6+ firsts in 3 drafts, near league high cap space, and a 2nd year starting goalie to go along with the 6th youngest team in the league that will be younger by the end of the season and next year.

I thought that was a good effort by the Flames and an entertaining game tonight. Jets looked tired but somehow eke out the two points.
I was really enjoying Honzek’s game until his dumb collision with Backlund. He was skating hard, using his speed, and finishing his checks. He looked good. Hopefully this is not an injury that will cost him any more time. Dude just can’t stay healthy or catch a break.
Wolf was great and it was fun to see good games again from Coronato, Klapka, and Frost.
Coleman, Kadri, and Andersson with good games too to boost the trade value.

I am very very aware of the club and how they are operating. This isn't some radically different course of path under GM Conroy. Forget about what has happened as of today, do you really think the Flames went into the season as being a last place club? Do you think a few years ago when the hope and the goal was to resign Lindholm, Hanafin, Big Z and others, but couldn't afford to give them the cap and term they wanted, they slightly pivoted?
It's short term memory around here where last year this was a great club (pumped up by unreal goalie performance) but now we are a masterful tank team?
This year we were suppose to compete for a playoff spot according to our roster construction. High priced veterans, coaching extension, captain extension, signing goalie long term, bringing up good young talent etc. The goal and plan was to compete, not be the worst club.
This is an ownership/management that is hell bent on compete for the playoffs, year in and out. Trust me, we are really just that bad of club by accident. That is why you have some of the NHL Insiders saying "Don't screw up this forced opportunity" by trying to correct for a 19th place finish.

If we end up drafting 1st, we should be sending a huge thank you card to Lindholm and Hanifin. They saved us from ourselves and forced us to change paths by saying no to huge contracts.
They really are just this bad by accident. There was no master plan, aside from getting lucky that everyone said no to re signing with us or asked for a trade. They have been getting draft picks but at the same time making moves to compete like with the Frost and Farabee trade and not trading players at last year's deadline.
And we will both get crapped on by some posters on here for stating the truth.

Spot on! I am hoping we can really draft high and get top tier talent, this is something this team badly badly needs. The guys we did have we didn't handle well at all in the end, Bennett, Chucky, Johnny and even Monny.
The Frost/Farabee trades are a perfect example, we got guys who are young, had some term, are suppose to be goal scorers and more. They were brought in to compete, not be nearly invisible for a last place club.

Frost is so invisible, he's second on the team in scoring. But don't let me spoil your rant with facts.

Frost and Farabee, for all of their potential shortcomings, seem like they GAF. They're out there trying to make a difference each and every shift.

He’s on pace for 40 points, with premium ice and PP time.

Lmao
Flames run a cap floor team.
Trade every expiring UFA that's worth anything for draft picks.
Sign zero high end free agents.

Over the course of the season, I sure feel frustrated with the lack of goals and the amount of chances that don’t get finished.
But lifeless? From all?
No. Not at all.
This team has consistently played hard and I feel a sense of pride that no matter what is happening off the ice in terms of rebuild/retool/whatever, the players are giving it their all.
Right now, we don’t have the talent to compete, that will hopefully be rectified over the course of the next few drafts. What we do have right now, is a culture of working hard - we’re getting beat, but we aren’t being outworked. The right moves and this culture can and hopefully will lead to a better future.
I’ve seen more talented teams - we all have, but some of those teams had and have awful attitudes, a feeling of entitlement. A poisonous culture. I don’t like watching players half ass it - no matter what team they play for. Consequently, I don’t like many of those players because they cheat us and themselves.
I genuinely like these guys. Calling them out as being lifeless and not trying? That is a bad take.

This is more of an insult to the flames than anything.

Ya they have sold off almost every veteran for picks and prospects and are in the middle of one of the biggest tear it down rebuilds in NHL history. That is why they sit last.

Pretty much the same team as last year.
They are sitting last because their best players are old and now are one year older and they have a serious lack of elite talent.
It’s not like there was an intention of being this bad when the season started.

Down by a goal late in the third period, you could almost guarantee a regulation loss, so the effort was definitely there.
Shootouts are a crapshoot even when the Flames had more skilled players, our record in shootouts was less than stellar.

I think this year and last they thought had a bottom ten team. If the management team wanted to be competitive the Flames would be capped out.

So now it’s not a rebuild in 2025-26 because they made room for Kadri and traded for Huberdeau and Weegar in 2022-23, before the build? Because they traded an old guy in Toffoli for a young guy in Sharangovich in 2023?
No, trading away a first is not part of a rebuild. That’s why it didn’t happen during this rebuild.
