It wasn't in reference to you, but Kadri's playoff points from six seasons ago (the first run you reference) don't feel all that relevant to who is the better player now.
Kadri was 29 then. Knies is 23 today.
Anyway my point is that Knies seems to be progressing each year. Is he better than Kadri at this exact second? That's hard to know. He'd certainly be far more valuable to the Flames.

Why are you guys arguing about pointless things... Knies is worth more than Andersson or Kadri.
Andersson is a league worst in +/- over the last year. He is a fine 2nd pairing dman but overrated by some Flames fans. Kadri is good but he's old now and could decline rapidly at any point. Aging players are not worth as much, it's just a fact.
Knies is a young 1st line center with plenty of potential. What are we even arguing here? We are not getting Knies. Would you trade Parekh for Tavares or Carlo? It is the exact same comparison.

Has Knies ever played centre at the NHL level? I was under the impression he was a LW

I guess “better” can be debated forever.
Knies is far more offensively dynamic than Kadri is or was. That’s hard to acquire. I’d be stunned if they moved him at all.

Ok yeah that's what I thought. Far be it from me to be the fact police on someone's hot take but for my own edification it's good to know Knies is not, nor has he ever been, a young 1st line centre.

Ya not a center. More likely he becomes a defenceman if he is going to switch positions from the LW he has always played.

Actually its worse. Parekh, while a very good prospect, hasn't proven himself at the NHL level. Knies is on pace for 100 points.

True… but there are so many people trying to make a living in the Toronto hockey media, they pretty much have to resort to clickbait to keep their noses above water.

Could be people are including Knies just because they recognize the Leafs have very little to offer - other than Knies and Danford and Cowan, who are you trading?

I would imagine that Kuznetsov's emergence has cooled this some.

Like a lot of people, I've been pleasantly surprised Kuznetsov slotted in so seamlessly. I believe you're right.

If BT has even a 1% thought of dealing Knies Conroy should be calling and texting him every 5 mins
Need a Zary in the deal ? Done. Need us to take someone else back ? Done
Knies is what you hope a top 3-5 pick turns into

At the end of the day, if the Flames trade away 2 of the 3 (Andersson, Coleman, Kadri), I think that will have been a pretty productive year from a trades perspective. Yeah - they should move all 3, but I'd take it as a pretty big win as a Flames fan if 2 of the 3 go, and we acquire two more 1st round picks spread across the 2026 and 2027 drafts.
|
Yeah I think Calgary has a tremendous amount of leverage league wide, they probably have two of the most prominent trade chips on the market, I don't know if they will get 2 1st round picks, but one is realistic, sprinkle some 2nd round picks and some decent prospects, would really stalk the cupboards.
Utah for the last 5-6 years has just been stuffing those cupboards with quality prospects, it's finally paying off, they might not have superstars, but they are going to have a very deep and talented team.

Last year Kadri had 67 points to Knies 58 (in four fewer games for Knies). That was Knies 2nd full season in the NHL, so maybe Knies was a bit worse last year but this year it’s not even close.
I see the apologist exodia is coming out, just need Jiri and Jayrandom. Counting stats stand no chance!

This would be a much better discussion if you could please try to pay more attention.

Agreed, he’s looking fantastic at both ends of the ice. Good puck movement, surprising mobility.

I talked about about Kadri's performance in Colorado with star linemates, which you described as "almost 5 years" (meaning 4 years). That's what I commented on. Try to pay more attention too.
