My guess is that Conroy originally wanted to trade Andersson at the deadline last year and then they popped and his plans got sewered

Minten + 2026 1st would have been an excellent return for Rasmus. No amount of "good" play from the team should have prevented them from acquiring that.

I was trying to figure out how a Toronto trade would actually work.
The main problem is that Toronto is 500K from the cap, and that they really do not have much prospect depth. Their best is Cowan, who projects as a.... Coleman basically. Nothing wrong with that. Their next available 1st is 2028, which loses some value based on how far away it is.
The only way I can see is a swap of problem children. Sharon in Calgary is permanently in the doghouse. That contract looks good in the top line, but fourth line or scratch and it's ugly. Likewise Brandon Carlo has not filled the role they were hoping for in Toronto, which is why they like Ras. Poor little Jarnkrok is stuck on the fourth line and is UFA. So, how you make the trade work, with money and value.
From Toronto
Easton Cowan
2028 1st (top five protected) or 2027 2nd
Brandon Carlo
Calle Jarnkrok
From Calgary
Rasmus Andersson (50% retained)
William Stromgren (needs a new home badly)
Yegor Sharongovich
I think that could be sold to both bases.

Not sure a 1st + 2nd for a retained Ras with a year and a half left is an excellent return. Looks better today because the Leafs look pretty bad right now and that pick looks decent.

Interesting there seems to be Anderson trade buzz again. This would be about that time a desperate GM makes a move to help save their season.

They were in the playoff race, no way they were selling at the deadline.

Frank mentioned that he will likely be the first guy dealt with but also the flames were not rushing anything. He complete crapped on the Rosehill tweet said it was absolutely nothing.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
^^ Or just deal with Montreal. Their worst offer probably beats anything Toronto could do or offer.

With injuries to both teams, hopefully Conroy has Brad calling daily and then Montreal swoops in and blows his offer out of the water.

From the wizard’s perspective, it’s basically 3 1st rounders for Rasmus
Not going to happen

I would be fine with this just to be out of the Sharangovich contract. Rest of the value is there especially if they can pump and dump Carlo

Not if Sharongovich is included, a huge negative value.

I think MTL missing a good veteran like Huberdeau. We should donate Huberdeau and Pachal or Bean to MTL and get some cap dump and a couple draft picks from them.
