News Roundup
Beyond the Boxscore: Flames offence continues to disappoint in 3-2 loss to St. Louis
It’s a Team Game – Calgary once again controlled time of possession, but it did not do much for their ability to generate a significant amount of dangerous chances. If you gander at the shot heatmap below, you’ll see neither team really did a good job of getting into the blue paint. Nathan Walker got into the crease for the Blues second goal, but other than that nobody was getting a decent number of chances on the doorstep.
'No sugar coating it': Flames dig deeper hole with third straight loss
Rasmus Andersson has never been one to hide his emotions, as was evident following the team’s latest loss on Tuesday.
“We’re in a tough situation, there’s no sugar coating it,” said Andersson following a 3-2 loss in St. Louis.
“It sucks where we’re at.
Flames weekly notebook: It’s time to move on from this core
All Flames fans want is for their team to turn into a legitimate cup contender with some superstar talent, like so many other NHL fan bases have got to experience over the last 35 years.
It's time for the Calgary Flames to go the route of the Canadiens
It's obvious now, the Flames should be in rebuild mode. And the model to go off of is one that's already proving to be working. It's also from the same city that is the inspiration of the brand new Scotia Place, that's of course from Montreal.
A Flame From the Past: David Moss
Do you remember David Moss?
Every once in a while, we take a look at a player who once played for the Calgary Flames in a series called “A Flame From the Past”. This player has to have played a significant number of games for the Flames. I’ll put every Flames’ season into a Wheel of Names, and this time, it landed on the 2008-09 season, the second time we’ve looked at a player from the 2008-09 season. In this article, we’ll take a look at David Moss.

Even a clock is right once every 12 hours ... so maybe we can get a win once every 12 games. Or score once every 12 periods. Or get a power play goal once every 12 opportunities. We definitely are a new brand of bad this year that is for sure.
My fandom remains strong though. Always cheering for a win. Go Flames! Let's get a win.

Sharks have been the benchmark for garbage teams over the last few seasons. At this point I doubt we can beat them. I think the Flames have taken over that moniker

Remember a couple of weeks ago when everyone was worried the Sharks were going to out-tank the Flames? Now, they're just outside a playoff spot and have a better points percentage than the "mighty" Oilers.

A few observations on the GDT.
1. Those shot maps by area are misleading.
2. Who knew that Brayden Pachal had such an amazing game against St. Louis?
3. Did Scorpion write that last article on David Moss?

If you look at the actual counts in each area, the differences are not that pronounced. In the areas in front of the net (high danger) the Sharks had 111 and 44 shots, whereas the Flames had 109 and 36 shots. I know they're color coding it as a proportion of their shots overall, but it makes it seem a lot worse than it actually is.

San Jose is a notably more talented team.
Can the Flames disrupt that with their brand of hockey and grind out a win?
I think another Mission McKenna two points tonight would be massive against a team that really embodies what the Flames should be aiming to accomplish.
It's a great day for Flames hockey, and possibly for the future of Flames hockey.

I LOL’d at the side-by-side leading scorers comparison.

It’s a comparison. Blue indicates that team has the higher number compared to the other team.

The bolded is certainly true. For example, I had no idea they were on a 4 game win streak. Might be time to start paying attention to them again!

Rory Kerins day (maybe?)!
When young players play, I tune in.
So Celebrini is going to wreck us tonight, isn't he?

I'm hoping Kerins coming up displaces Sharangovich. Give Zary a longer look on the wing with Kadri.
On shots, the last I looked at Edge, the Flames were #1 in shots on goal in the league, but middle of the pack in high danger shots. That definitely reflects Huska's message of getting shots through. They just aren't getting people there to get that second chance which would translate into more high danger. Personally, I'd rather them preach a little more patience and try to make a play to the inside to increase the number of high danger that way. But, then you have the talk about having the talent to make that play.
I still can't cheer for losses, but am not very sad when they do lose. I do know there will be a fire sale this year at some point and that doesn't make me sad either. Anyway, as always, GFG!!

That's a good spot for Kerins. Well deserved.
